Most Wanted

I have just done another manual update of chaser logs - I wonder how it is looking now for everyone?

In reply to M1EYP:
As far as I can check, if I click through from the regional summary page to the summit details page, then (of all that I have checked) the summit chases I have recorded are there i.e. “Chased by You on:” is there but on the regional summary page where the orange numbers appear under the “my activations” and “my chases” all of my activations appear but the chases column is blank, i.e. none of my chases show up.

In reply to M1EYP:

Still the same Tom. As Jim says, the individual summit pages are okay, but the region pages, for example the SP summits, are still out of date.

In reply to M1EYP:
Hi Tom,

Mine’s the same as Jim G0CQK - blank on all regions

OK folks, I’ve ‘made’ the SOTAwatch bug work on me now! Some of my unique chases since April are missing too. I’ll contact Jon in case he’s not seen this.

My list above, therefore, contains several summits that are not ‘needed’ after all - Shobdon, Seager Hill, Cold Fell etc - I will wait for Jon to fix the bug, then edit them out of my original list.

In the meantime, keep the Most Wanted coming! Still awaiting the lists of some Very Important Chasers!

Hi Tom,

Pete, M0COP

We are holding off further analysis until Jon fixes the “My Chases” April+ bug. He is aware of this issue and is working on it. I for one certainly need to correct my figures when this is done, perhaps others do too.

In the meantime, please continue to post your ‘Needs’ for G/GD/GW chases. In terms of activations, some ‘Most Wanted’ lists, in terms of the least number of activations follow. Remember, this is only an approximation, as the chaser needs will depend more on the number of QSOs that were involved in the activations. Swinside is top in England, but we know that G1INK activated that, so loads of chasers will have that Unique!

In reply to M1EYP:
Interesting list Tom - I’m surprised at how many of the most wanted I have activated - about half. And half of those I haven’t chased. Mellbreak and Low Fell would make a good pair with Binsey and Watch Hill added on way back to motorway.

Roger G4OWG

In reply to M1EYP:

Some surprising results Tom… particularly since the activation of Myarth SW-035 by Paul G4MD and myself in August is not included in the calculations. I would have thought it would have been higher up the list. Obviously Peter TJE did too good a job first time around! The same must be true for Upper Park MW-032.

It will be interesting to see what happens to DC-002 / 3 / 6 and 7 in the final results. I’ll be able to see what impact my July efforts made on their position.

73, Gerald

P.S. On first glance, it looks like the highest wanted summit is a 2 pointer… if you ignore Birks Fell. Now tell me SOTA isn’t competitive…

These initial lists are based on the number of activations of each summit Gerald.

In reply to M1EYP:

It makes interesting reading already Tom and I sure you will be able to come up with some fascinating analysis of the data.

There is only one summit that I have done in the Most Wanted England list; LD-14 Binsey is a lovely little hill, probably no good on VHF but an easy HF activation and yet almost untouched. I wonder how many of those other most wanted are easy ones just passed by and how many are a long walk in for one point usually after a long drive.

Steve

In reply to GW7AAV:

I suspect that the large number of DC, SB and SC summits on the “low number of activations” list is due to their physical distance from “SOTA Central”. Therefore, unless there are keen SOTA activators in the locality, they rely largely on “passing trade”. Some of them, like DC-003 (Kit Hill), are extremely easy with a car park on the summit. Others are not so easy, such as DC-006 (Carnmenellis) which is guarded by a fabled dragon!

Another, apparently easy, one is SE-007 (Crowborough). After all, there is a bus service to the pub at the summit!! However, the problem is not accessibility, or the long walk in for one point, but purely the difficulty of finding somewhere to set up in the activation zone whilst complying with SOTA rules. Several of us have done it, always with a feeling of unease, but few besides myself have returned for a subsequent try! This is definitely a summit where CW is much easier, as it is not nearly so conspicuous as shouting “CQ SOTA” next to somebody’s garden hedge!

Looking forward to some interesting statistics emerging from Tom’s lot.

Hi Terry

I think you can knock off G/CE-005 as you worked me on 5Mhz at 0927 when I activated Wendover Woods on 18th August.

73 Marc GØAZS

Jon GM4ZFZ has fixed the problem where chases since mid-April were not credited in the region summary lists. All statistics should now be up-to-date (manual updates from here pending). Some contributors may wish to edit their ‘needs’ lists above (including me).
