Ham2K Portable Logger (Android / Apple) for SOTA

I might make another request to shorten the time. No one needs to see the seconds on the screen. Or make it two rows instead of one.
I guess it is not so much an issue on tablets but on phones it is.

I have it too, but I couldnā€™t see it

Visto, gracias!

This is a very nice app and it generates files for SOTA/pota/wwff from single log. I still log with paper, but I have forgotten pencil or paper and Iā€™d use this app in those cases. It has really improved since it first came out. So far itā€™s free but I suspect there will be fees once itā€™s finished. Iā€™d buy it for sure. It automatically formats S2S references: just type in the text and it adds / and -

A quick update the 2024 Pre-10 version of Polo no longer aborts when loading SOTA or POTA data as it used to with Pre-7.
Update: It appears to be Android level and phone model related as on my second phone, it fails still.
Update 2: Running the Ham2k POLO app under Bluestacks on a Windows 11 laptop, the SOTA data loads fine, so the problem is definitely hardware related.

It didnā€™t work for me, the database didnā€™t download. Iā€™m sticking with VKLOG.

Correct Ed @DD5LP. Polo develops so fast, that you donā€™t have time to ask for things, hi hi. The team is formidable and with a lot of common sense!!!

Hi all, Iā€™m the creator of Ham2K PoLo. Iā€™m glad to see your comments (and yes, the ā€œ:ā€ in times is on our to-do list).

The app is available in Appleā€™s AppStore and Googleā€™s Play Store, and the version with all the SOTA improvements should be released early next week.

More info is available at https://polo.ham2k.com/ (although the new SOTA improvements are not yet discussed there).

What is the minimum version of Android that is required to run PoLo? I have here an old Samsung tablet running and running.
Thanks and vy 73, Markus HB9DIZ

Thank you, Sebastian. Welcome to the SOTA Reflector. Many of us are looking forward to the newest SOTA features in your logging software. Keep us posted.

The bare minimum is Android 6, but the app also likes to have some cpu and memory available, so if your phone is too old it might not run as smoothly, or might not be able to download the database of SOTA summit.

I can report that the first test using the Beta Version worked pretty well.

I have some more ideas that I will put into issues on GitHub.
Thanks Sebastian and everyone contributing for your work :+1:

This app is by far the best iOS logging app. Thank you!

Hi Sebastian,
Glad to know you are around with us.

Thanks so much for your good work in this App. I have used on my phone while activating for POTA and also combined with SOTA. It worked great and the interface is very good.

Iā€™m looking forward to update with the latest changes and give it a go.

Thanks for your time! 73

This caught my eye (itā€™s alright, it didnā€™t leave a mark  ). How does it compare to something like HamRS?

Must admit, I did purchase HamRS but i canā€™t cope with logging on an app when thereā€™s a pile up. Then your phone screen keeps switching off, your watch display goes off (for looking at Zulu) and the whole thing just gets on my Alan Whickerā€™s.

I just use good old pen and paper at the minute, with every intention of using an app, I just manually enter my logs in to HamRS, then export the logbook to *.adi and upload to QRZ, POTA.app, SOTA UK, BOTA (Beaches) website and so on.

Oh, one other thing for the developer. Can we download this app directly outside of Google Play? Or another repo, maybe F-Droid? @KI2D

Iā€™ve logged QSOs at rates over 200/hour sustained, and peaking at 350, using the phoneā€™s keyboard.

PoLo has a setting to keep the screen always on, and it displays zulu time right there for you.

But as to making it available in other app stores, Iā€™m not saying ā€œneverā€, but for now I rather keep it simple for me to manage. Dealing with monthly release on the google and apple app stores is already enough work so I rather focus my time on features and bug fixes.

Oh cool! I tried using a separate app for HamRS called Caffinate. It doesnā€™t really work properly so itā€™s nice to know your app has an always-on feature.

Kudos on a fine looking app. Iā€™ll give it a spin and see how it shapes up alongside HamRS and VK Porta Log.

Understood on the app distro line. Just a shame it has to go through Google in order to download it. Maybe I missed it but is the apk available to download directly?

EDIT: Mean to ask too, feature request, is it possible to add Beaches On The Air to the app?

I once made an APK available, but it was an old version. The main problem with direct APK downloads is managing the update process. I donā€™t want users downloading a version and then not updating it againā€¦ it makes keeping track of bugs and errors and complaints really hard.

Adding support for BeachesOTA is possible, but it might require a bit of extra work to deal with the whole ā€œactivation codeā€ process.
