Hello to all. I’m really sorry to answer this sad news so late, I’m not at home. Gerald from F6HBI phoned me with this information and I’m still in shock. Losing a friend who has shared so much with us for this common passion is always difficult to accept. I would like to send my sincere condolences to his entire family. He will always be in our memories.
Kind regards 73.

Goodbye Guru,

During our joint activation in NV-057 you promised me a souvenir (a Pentode vaccum lamp).

Last Monday during my two activations in Navarre EA2/NV-058 & EA2/NV-096 you contacted me and I was surprised you indicated that the souvenir was sent by post.

Today I hear the bad news and …the postman delivered the lamp to me.
I’m going to put it in my shack, so I’ll have a bit of you in my Radio Room.

I will keep from you the good times spent together in Pamplona and during our common several activations in Navarre.
Thank you Guru for your kindness, your friendship, your sincerity.

I lost a friend from the Southern Basque Country.

Your friend Alain F5ODQ

So sad. I know from what I’ve read here Guru put up a huge fight.
What a difficult loss.

Such sad news. When I heard of Gurus problems a while back I sent him a lucky anvil with my qso card and was very humbled to see it on his home rig.

Our last QSO was on Sunday - he was first in the log of my Stony Cove Pike activation.

My only consolation is that he was able to enjoy his hobby right up to the end.

SOTA has lost one of its shiny stars, and left a hole in my heart.

Rest in peace my friend. Mark

I will miss hearing Guru calling me from the summits…I worked him many, many times, one of them an s2s. He Never broke my s-meter, but he was always a possible contact from Arizona. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

It was the end of the road for a passionate radio amateur who was in love with the SOTA program, who fought to the end in his fight for life, but whose outcome was inevitable. His courage and fighting spirit are an example to us all. An emotional thought for his family and especially for his children still young.
Rest in peace Guru and ascend to amateur radio heaven.

Such an incredible loss. The Reflector and SOTA just won’t be the same without Guru’s frequent input and wisdom. He was one of my first qrp dx qsos and it was quite exciting to get EA from here!

I hope someone can take his paddles up to those last 26 points to grant him a much deserved MG posthumously. He will be remembered and missed by so many, especially in the SOTA family.

73,
Amy/AG7GP

I was shocked to hear of Guru’s passing. In the short time I have been in the SOTA program we enjoyed almost 100 qsos as Chaser or Chased. The pileup will be a little emptier without his call.
RIP and GN OM

My sincerest condolences to Guru’s entire family, I was looking forward to hopefully getting him in my log one day. The Sota community will never forget his contributions to the hobby.

Be sure to look at his long entry in QRZ.com, in English, then repeated in his other two languages, Spanish and French.

He had warned us his end was approaching. Its always too soon though. Even in a huge pileup, I’d hear Guru at the end with a diminutive but clear call, "ea2if ea2if’ always a 229 but always readable and most of all, always there. Its strange the connective experience amateur gives us to those we’ve never see or shaken their hand but Guru connected with all of us. We will re-connect one day. Until then, 73’s.

Guru friend, we had been operating in Sota for a short time, when we had the first contact with you, in which you introduced yourself with your affable voice and wished us the best on the radio, and not long ago you sent us an email giving us new advice that we have incorporated into our operating modes, that is, always attentive to others, thanks for that.
You have worked hard in the design of your antennas to better reach our radio equipment, today we do not have to make any effort to send you our sincere affection, and keep your memory in our hearts.

Although we knew that Guru was very ill, this still came as a big shock. He was still so active right to the end. My last qso with him was just seven days ago.

His contribution to this forum is huge. His posts are informative, insightful, sometimes challenging. But it’s the way he faced his illness and shared his situation with us that impressed me the most. We can only hope that he got some comfort from the outpouring of support he received from everybody. At least he is now at peace from that dreadful disease. Rest in peace, dear friend.
