Congratulations, well done on achieving MG Fraser.

Just baaaaaa…ck from the Isle of Jura and had a fine view of Ben More on Mull from the summit of GM/SI-013, at least for a few minutes. I thought I might have ‘herd’ you!

I also qualified GM/SI-003 just a few weeks before you but it was on a last Munro party so quick and dirty, just like the weather we had that day.

Thanks Colwyn. :joy:

Coincidentally, we’d planned to go to Islay and Jura in the lead up to our Mull week. Unfortunately circumstances prevented it from happening. Gutted as we’ve never been.

I’ve heard a lot of folk leave Ben More until last due to its island location and the need to take a ferry. The chaps that did it on the Saturday of the Mull rally would have had a memorable day. Heavy rain, low cloud and when they returned to their car, it wasn’t where they’d left it. They’d left it in a dangerous position at the side of the road. That road was now closed and was a rally stage. I’d been tasked with moving their car to a safe place. Even when they did find their car, they couldn’t leave until the road opened some 2.5 hours later!

Hi Fraser, congratulations :+1:

From The ARRL Letter for October 27, 2022.

Fraser Wenseth, MM0EFI, of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, has become a Summits on the Air (SOTA) Mountain Goat. Wenseth amassed 1,000 activator points, and his qualifying activation was on Ben More Summit (GM/SI-003) on the Isle of Mull off Scotland’s west coast. He is well-known within the SOTA community for producing high-quality films of his SOTA exploits. These can be found on his YouTube channel. Wenseth also appeared on BBC One’s Countryfile program when SOTA was featured on the show. More information about SOTA is on their website.

Thanks Eric, for the confirmation that my press releases are still making it out there!

BTW folks, the penultimate sentence in my original text began with the word “Fraser”! Maybe this is the American style (to use surname) but that may soon slightly rude to a British audience!

Congratulations, I love your videos.

Thanks Éric. And thank you Tom, for the kind words.

“Famous for being Famous”

On the video side, I have a few in the pipeline:

A 2 m SSB failure and success in the same day.

A three part video of my 9 summit multi-day hike over the Cairngorms. The first episode is done and I really like it.

I was also going to do a video on Scotlands hardest 1 pointer, but then I found a harder one. Thankfully I filmed that too…

Oh, and the video of our recent Madeira trip is now online. It will bring back memories for the many who went before me.

I became an accidental youtuber. I really like the creativity side of it. I’m always open to feedback around the length of the videos, content, production quality and whether the mix of me bumbling around the mountains v. amateur radio content is satisfactory.

Wenseth

I see what you did there

Thread drift warning! I remember when I passed the selection course to join the Army I received a letter informing me of the result which started “Dear Laidler”, which is my surname. No “Mr” or first name of course.

massive congratulations. I think it took me 10 years to get to 100 activation points! Mountain goat is always a tough award but one that shows true determination and effort through countless years and hard slogging up hills in all weathers to talk to someone on a radio from the top.

Hopefully one day i might follow in the footsteps of others.

Mountain goats are a true inspiration.

I think it should go after your name like a degree

Well done and congratulations Fraser.

I hope it got you to hills you wouldn’t otherwise go to like it has done for me.

Thanks David!

It certainly has. A great example is Ben Newe GM/ES-053, a lovely little 2 pointer almost on my doorstep. An easy half hour climb. Lovely summit, partly wooded and brilliant views. I’ve activated it three times in two years and it’s where I went to film the Countryfile stuff. There are loads of surprises like that, but I am lucky in where I live. I never forget that.

Great idea

My certificate and trophy arrived yesterday. I put the thophy on the mantlepiece and Mo brought it to life.

Thank you @GM4TOE Barry for the excellent service from the shop.

I had to smile when David posed the question about SOTA getting you to do hills you would not otherwise have done. I think I’d never have done 500 of the total I’ve accrued since starting SOTA back in 2006.

Nice lighting on your glass trophy… well done Mo. I must doing something with mine, even though it’s in the shack and not on the mantlepiece. :grinning:

That is impressive. I think I have around 130 Uniques. Have you completed GM/SS? Also, have you decided on a summit for the reansatlantic event?
