Ive activated ZL1/HB-061 a few times and its free access. About a 90 minute walk in - track is good enough to do in the dark. Could arrange something?
ZL1/MW-097 I have only done once and it is on private land.
I’d love to try a S2S with ZL! What time of day (UTC wise) gives the best chance?
Got a trip to the Lake District next week, and no family so free to do any time!
Perfect time of year now, best chance in my experience is to aim an hour either side of sunrise or sunset and 20m long path. Thats on a summit in the UK around 5.30am
And find a ZL ham the other end who just as keen to be up a summit at sunset !
PS. This is a family friendly activation. Nobody in my house cares if I’m on a mountain at 5.30am
Can do - this weekend we have a long weekend. I can do sunrise or sunset. Probably a ZL1/WK summit - say ZL1/WK-157 or ZL1/WK-176 (these summits are clean from RF and scalable in the dark).
If you don’t mind staying on the summit a little longer then VK S2S could be a possibility as well. I know it’s not quite antipodean I’d be interested in trying.
I’m usually up for heading up my local (ZL1/AK-023) anytime to give S2S, if I can.
You should spot well in advance and put something with ZL in the comments i.e “Looking for ZL S2S” , other wise I’m not going to see alerts for europe.
(This weekend I expect the weather to clag out our Sunday)
Alert up for Thursday 1800. Will look for dx s2s on 20m. Message me on facebook for onsite liaison. ZL2AJ.
When being out on a summit, the most reliable path to VK/ZL for me is on EU mornings around this time of the year. Approx. 6:00 utc the LP on 20m or 17m should be open. Times may vary according to the actual condx. Never really tried other times.

Plans are still being figured out, and a little weather dependant, but could be able to try either Sunday 27th UTC night (circa 1900 UTC), Monday 28th ~1900 UTC or Tuesday 29th circa 0500 (although sun rise is 0430 UTC, so maybe I’d want to be earlier).
I agree, I hear/work VK & ZL most mornings on 20w JS8 or VARAC with urban noise. Only ever hear either on 40m in the EU evenings.
Weather might be OK for those at this end. Sunrise/set is ~7UTC at this end.
Decided at 5am to go to the dawn service and pop up Mt Eden afterwards.
Bit of a fail, as I left the EFHW transformer on the bench.
(Still managed to work ZL2AJ on 15m with the EFHW wire just poked into the radio, and total mismatch, but no DX)
Shame there is no Turkiye association as we remember Gallipoi today.
