That would be Baldric with a cunning plan. Stole the voice from an elderly aunt of mine.

Relax. Relax I said. If I have to come over there to make you relax I will and you’ll be proper relaxed.

I watch Xiaoma on YouTube every so often, he’s a language enthusiast from America and makes vidros about trying out different languages. In a recent episode Ari is attempting Doric.

I had to concentrate hard to understand the American Doric. Having worked in Fraserburgh and lived in Peterhead, I’m well versed in the Doric, as well as the different volcabulary used in these two tiwns that are just 16 miles apart.

Signed, a toonser who’s now semi-neep

Yes, as in haggis, neeps and tatties. Timely, as it’s Burn’s Night in Saturday.

 The spelling of Whisky raised my hackles a bit too!

I’m no Scot, I’m Yorkshire born and bred, but with Evans as a surname I’m guessing there’s some Welsh in the mix.

I was named with a nod to the Isle of Coll though and the Hebrides is where I feel a visceral connection.

The spelling dilemma of ‘e’ or no ‘e’ has a long complicated history, often tied-in to the law of the land, but true Scotch, made in Scotland, has no ‘e’ while distillers in Ireland and America usually add the ‘e’.
Whether or not either should have water added to it in a glass remains a fiercely debated issue of course…!
Either way, my excellent SOTA-branded hip flask is well used.
Slainte!

I wouldn’t worry. In 20 years or so, we’ll all be speaking and spelling US English.
