What is the highest QSO total of single activation (Part 1)

My all-day activation on Z3/WM-046 ended with total of 257 QSOs all on HF.
I bealeve that this score is record number of contacts made in single SOTA activation.

In reply to Z35M:
Laurent, F8BBL/P made 203 QSO when he was on TK/TK-112 using TK8B/P call.

In reply to Z35M:

What exactly would constitute ‘single SOTA summit activation’? In particular, what if you live on the summit? (This could probably be arranged on Snowdon, for example). Could several days of operating be counted as a single activation, albeit with off-air periods?

It’s a bit hypothetical, since I don’t think anyone’s going to actually do such a thing.

In reply to M0FFX:

Probably only a 24hr period should count inline with chaser rules.

i.e. 00:00 to 23:59

In reply to M0FFX:
The “single SOTA summit activation” is based on what is accepted from the SOTA web site system as valid activation. Only individual operator activations are listed.
The submitted list of top QSO scores is not creating new rules.

For what it counts I should be 3= with INKy for an activation of LD-013 in 2005
I just couldnt be bothered at the time going through the painful process of submitting the log online for 160 contacts in a contest.
now the list is lost in the mists of time, I will have it somewhere but I am not that obsessed about the accolade of 3= to go hunting for it.

SOTA is not inherently competitive, but at this rate maybe we should be organising an all band SOTA contest.
I dread the thought!

In reply to G4OIG:

The list of highest QSO totals of single SOTA activations is showing one aspect of this basicaly not competitive activity.

The issue of SOTA contest is very complex. Even for the International SOTA weekend we had a lot of debate.
The eventual SOTA Contest or QSO party is only needed to popularize SOTA among the Non-SOTA HAM community.

The contra arguments for SOTA Contest:

  • safety issues
  • WX dependant
  • lack of comfort for proper logging and tracking
  • limited power sources
  • mostly daylight activity
  • weak SOTA signals
  • non-competitive SOTA concept
  • e.t.c.

But, to set a resonable rules for relaxing SOTA Contest or QSO Party is not impossible.

In reply to Z35M:

Hi all SOTA Fans!

After 40 years of HAM operation, including many years of portable contesting both as an individual and as a member of the HG7B/p V/UHF contest team, I found a new toy about a month ago: SOTA. After a few weeks of successful chasing I tried SOTA activation last week-end from the nearby HA/KM-031.
I established 177 QSOs, including 12 S2S QSOs. Unfortunately the WAE-DX Phone leg disabled operation in SSB (a single QSO made at 14.285 and another at 7.118) so I had no other choice but to enjoyed the good old CW mode! :-)))
Also tried for a while 14.060 and 10.118 MHz CW, but no reply, so I enjoyed the nature for a few minutes and returned to 40m.
I will submit a more detail report in a separate topic later.
Unfortunately had not been able to upload correctly my log converted with adi2sota.exe (downloaded from http://www.sota-france.fr/log-eng.htm) into the activator database. :frowning: Only the S2S QSO appeared, but as if I would have activated the reached summits and the rest of the QSOs vanished somewhere in the air… Any idea, what did I do wrong? Send your replies into my HAM E-mail address, please! (my callsign netscape.net)

Hi Joska,

I think that your summit ref is not in a right ADIF field.
Send me your ADIF file to ‘f6eno at wanadoo.fr’ and I will have a look
to understand your problem

Best 73 and welcome to SOTA activators !

Hi SOTA Fans!

Thanks to the help of F6ENO Alan and HA4FY JĂĄnos, I had been able to fix the problem in my file and I have already uploaded all the 177 QSOs into the SOTA database.

Fri, of course I remember you. Forgetting about an excellent CW op like you is simply out of question! You believe or not, but I had in my hands the photo taken at HB9Z (HB9BCZ Robi, HB9RE Fritz/papa you (“Fritz/son”), [no AAA-lois!!! ] and me) about a month ago. As far as I can remember, that was taken in late June of 1985, right around the Friedrichshafen HAM-Radio jamboree.
