Please join me on a holiday style first activation of the summit Kliros SV/CR-047 on the island of Crete / SV9.
On a windy but otherwise beautiful day I took the rental car to the small town of Oreino and followed the E4 long-distance hike for about one hour along a nice valley upward.
Just before the saddle I went offtrail and followed more or lesser available goat tracks to the summit.
Lot’s of wind made it quite fine regarding temperatures.
I setup the endfed for HF and also made a very nice local QSO on 2m FM.
That is true.
The time we were there the wx was very nice. Very nice for swimming and due to the wind also hiking was quite nice.
So I can recommend early/mid September for a visit.
Funny. I had a flashback on my Onedrive photos that today 12 years ago, we walked up Mount Ida (SV/CR-001) for a geocache. The days before the weather was very nice, but that day the wind turned North. We didn’t make it. It was foggy and the wind was so strong across the ridge, it blew us back, making the final kilometer too dangerous. Maybe we should try it again in September
