A real pain today, not copying many of the activators and the few being copied with very poor signals and deep QSB.

Geomagnetic storms reaching the G2 level are expected.
The thread title and my initial post might sound a bit discouraging for those thinking about going out to activate SOTA and those willing to chase, but that wasn’t my intention at all and let me show you how despite the very poor propagation conditions, with good work and determination of the activators and chasers a populated log like the one I’ve got this morning is still possible:
Cheers,
Guru
Yes not so easy today but chasing is quite good on my side.
And day isn’t over

Wow, Roger!!!
Amazing log!
Bravo!!!
Evidently conditions have slightly improved in the past five hours
The numbers might be improving but real conditions are not so good.
I haven’t heard a European SOTA activator in 2 weeks. I do hear
some of the chasers from Europe calling the USA activators. Most of
my contacts with activators have been on the lower bands and from the western USA the last few days. I sure hope things improve soon !
73,
John, K6YK
Hi all,
Yes condx are not so good but you can work a couple of SOTA
No yagi’s and only 100w (no remote and no WebSDR) - All in an IC7300 and Windom FD4 + fan dipole
73 Éric
Bonjour Éric,
I find your chasing log simply amazing!
It’s very interesting in order to see how different things can be depending on the geographical location.
Congrats!
73,
Guru
My working conditions are very similar when I chase SOTA in the morning because my rotator is broken and my yagi is stuck always beaming West to America, so not usable for chasing European activators.
My morning chases were all done with an inverted vee multiband broadband folded dipole and a home made inverted vee 40m band bazooka dipole. 100W out from my IC-706MKI working remotely.
Now I have just chased VA2EO on 20m CW with my yagi but having big difficulties and extremely low signal + QSB. I needed several attempts to complete the QSO and I gave him RST 219, so you can have an idea…
But all this is part of the ham radio fun, isn’t it?
73,
Guru
hi, 47 qso today, and there is day left
73
Amazing, José!
Congratulations!!!
WOW ! It’s not that good here. I have 8 today, all western
USA, most real weak. A lot more out there but can’t hear them.
The ones near me (100-300 miles) are on 20 or 40 meters, can’t hear them, they are too close, and a lot of them won’t come down to 60 or 80 meters. I think the most I have ever got in one day is maybe 25.

John
And I was sending with ~3w into a trapped efhw with a key that had a mind of its own The contacts need a clean I think.
Tnx for the contact Eric, it wasn’t a great day but you were an easy copy for me. Best dx for me was ~ 1750km
Alex
That explains it then! I was camped on G/LD-009 last night, listening to nothing but S8 noise and static crashes.
It was a little better this morning and managed a few S2S.
Thanks for the post explaining.
That’s often my problem. Several activators are too far away for 40m and too close for 20m.
The 30m band is just the perfect band, but not all activators work this great band unfortunately.
73,
Guru
Yeah, not the best conditions today. But any day I can activate a SOTA summit is a good day.
