UPDATED PLAN: Jersey Boys on Tour

Updated #2!
SARK NOW BACK ON for Sunday 7th July approx 09:30UTC.

The Jersey Boys are on Tour… JERSEY BOYS ON TOUR | Official Website

Oh hang on… not those Jersey Boys… These Jersey Boys.

Allan @gw4vpx and I (and our wives) are going to Jersey, Guernsey and Sark.

Plan is as follows… times are approximate, subject to update
Les Platons (Jersey) SOTLAS Friday 5th July 17:00UTC.
Guernsey Airport SOTLAS Sunday 6th July 13:00UTC.
Le Moulin (Sark) SOTLAS Sunday 7th July 09:30UTC.

Allan and I will split bands and modes as appropriate, we might share the mic if conditions are dire and contacts are rare. We will update Alerts subject to phone coverage – which I expect should be good everywhere, except I’m unsure about Sark? I will use InReach spotting there if needed.

We hope to speak to some of you from these moderately rare Associations.

Allan and I are aware that some members of the Worked All Britain group are also on Jersey at the same time and we are looking forward to seeing them.

I’m sending you some good weather (and could we have some rain in Hereford pse as we are in a bad drought…) and hope you have lots of fun - and contacts!! Where was that picture taken?? I assume its a Welsh SOTA summit.

That photo to me, looks like it was taken on the Isle of Man ?? I recognise the background, and have the exact summit in mind… can you guess now Viki ? I could be completely wrong on this, but I’m fairly confident I’m not

That’ll be Judith, G4IAQ and myself, then.

Thanks! Been pretty dry in Mold too.

As a few others have said… Isle of Man last year, specifically Bradda Hill SOTLAS

Could we have some fine weather please - biblical rainfall right now in Banff :grimacing:

Sadly SARK is canceled. Our ferry from Jersey has left 2 hours late and we have missed our connection to Sark as a result.

One for another trip.

We will be activating the main Guernsey summit this afternoon instead.

Very bad luck! Hope you manage to have a successful activation of GU/GU-002 instead. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

SARK now back on. Due to an extra non timetabled sailing, we can get to SARK on Sunday morning and still get back in time to catch the larger ferry back to Jersey in the late afternoon.

Jersey Boys.

Thanks for your activation’s in the channel islands. Especially giving me Sark which I had missed a few times. I hope you all had a great time on and off the air.

Glad you had a good trip - despite ‘slight’ problems. Tx for talking to M0JLA who has now chased all 3 summits so it looks as if he will at last be enthusiastic(3 possible completes!!) about visiting the Channel Isles which have been on my list for many years. Just a little thought - have I any chance on 5w VHF and UHF?

I tried 2m FM on Guernsey… not a peep heard. Nothing heard when tuning around either. I didn’t bother on Sark and was too short of time to try on Jersey.

A note to the local clubs to get a sked might be the only route.

I’ll do a proper write up a little later today. I’ll add in some logistics comments, although the notes by Phil @G4OBK on his blog are (as always) very useful and covered pretty much everything we needed to know.

Given enough warning I could be on Kit Hill G/DC-003 and it could be line of sight from South Devon. And if not quite line of sight still worth a try!

Sounds good to me! However we have got to plan a visit to the islands first so it may be next year or even longer. Judging from the views of the recent activations 2 of the ‘summits’ seem to be grass verges beside the road/runway but the Sark one needed a 500m trek (shock horror) so shouldn’t be too challenging once we actually get on to the right island. I’ll let you know when/if we start booking!

Its a wee bit further than that if you don’t use the tractor transport Viki, depending on the amount of time you have available. Gerald and Allan made the best of what time they had on Sark. Well done in the Channel Islands guys!
