While activating Bishop Hill on 2m, I received a call from MM0GHM/RS. Graham is the conductor on the Royal Scotsman train. It takes tourists on a luxury scenic railway journey across the Highlands over a few days.
He’s certainly getting about on that train.
I spoke to him from Cnoc Mor GM/NS-150 above Strathpeffer in May and I heard him from the top of GM/WS-178 a fortnight ago but sadly wasn’t able to make a QSO.

Well done Fraser and Alex. Many thanks for the excellent reports and photos. Both pairs of summits look lovely. I missed you both of course as I was sight-seeing on Skye. No chance of sneaking the kit into the car or indeed the time to set up.
As for the off topic of CDs, I bought my first one in 1987. Brothers and Sisters - Allman Brothers Band. I recall there was a lot of talk at that time about CDs wiping themselves or becoming corrupt due to deterioration of the disc. A lifespan of 5 years was often quoted. Well my 1987 CD still plays fine.
Cheers Gerald. Interesting summits. My two; flat topped, but with steep sides plunging into the loch. Alex’ two summits aren’t dramatic, but I think they instill a great feeling of isolation. I’d like to add tranquility to that, but it’s always been pretty windy when I’ve done them!
I bought a Pioneer 6 disc CD player, probably around the same time you bought your player. The discs went in a cartridge. Later, I had a Range Rover that used the same cartridges.
And the first CD I bought? Yup, Brothers in Arms. I’m streaming it as I write this, waiting in the car while Mo attends an appointment. It really is rather good.
I mislaid my original release Dire Straits vinyl whilst at university, lent it to someone and never got it back. I replaced it with a half-speed mastered version on virgin vinyl before I invested in a mortgage and such nonsense as music and hobbies had to take a back seat. ISTR that single albums were about £3.50-£4 then this super quality version was £11.
Anyway, VHF Field Day this weekend and a strong possibility I’ll be able to get in the shed for next weekend to get my bike out and some bike and hike activations.
Cheers David. There were a few running about on the plateau. I was able get quite close. I also stumbled on quite a large group of grouse, in a hollow, half way up the first hill. They all took off in different directions, including the fledglings. First time I’d seen that.
