Forgive me for being picky but that adds little in terms of protection against knocks etc., and increases weight to carry up the hill.
Camping mats or foam carpet underlay, cut to size, add considerable knock protection and weight next to nothing.
Hi Dave, I suppose we are speaking about different approaches. Those rails are meant to provide operational protection of control knobs (minor hits), as well as to provide a frame, preventing the rig rattling inside the bag and allowing some extra airflow when operating in a bag. Bagless use on rough surface is possible when desired as well, horizontaly or vertically.
As you correctly noted, mats and foam would provide much better protection, but I am more concerned about operational matters at present.
Weight wise, having a 12-13kg backpack, an extra 400g doesn’t bother me really ![]()
