Here is the link I used. I love these things!!
Apologies for responding to this old thread, came here via Google while researching Powerpole USB connectors.
Heads-up for anybody looking to power a Raspberry Pi or similar device: twin port adapters like this briefly cut power when the load changes, i.e. when a second device is added or removed, which does the RPi no favours at all and can lead to corrupted SD card. Obviously fine for charging stuff though.
@M1EYP Tom what did you end up with?
This particular adapter seems to have two independent outputs. It does not interrupt one output if the other one is connected or disconnected. I just gave it a try in various combinations.
However, what you noted is true for most of the PD adapters I have seen so far.
I didn’t!
I stopped using phones/tablets for datamodes and got a cheap Lenovo Notebook from Currys instead. That has a good longer period before the battery runs down. I could still do with USB charging options though.
I’ve now noticed that the contacts on my existing Tracer LifePO4 pack are deteriorating where the T-bar slots in. I could probably clean them up as the battery itself still performs well. But I do really like the look of the updated version of this product - which has USB (and other) charging sockets. It’s expensive - but I’m tempted.
I’ll probably hang on until we know more about the proposed FTX-1F. Size, weight etc - including the optional battery pack, cooling fan, ATU etc. I can’t help but suspect that’s all going to end up being too bulky though.
Hi Tom, just googled Tracer, the price on their 4Ah battery has been reduced from £160 to £99 exc VAT, I see. 73 John
Yes, and the one I’m interested on (the 16Ah 12V battery) is reduced from £350 to £240. I’m very tempted.
For powering my pi from the 12ah lifepo i have a small adaptor from amazon which has 2 usb outputs. its at the top end of its power limit but powers the pi and 7inch screen without issues so far and at about £17 for 2 not too costly to replace. They also have a handy on/off button although this switches both usb outs rather than an individual for each usb socket.
Picture below (hope it shows as not sure if ive resized it correctly).
I recently designed a USB C PD & USB A (2.4A box. Accepts a barrel plug and two powerpole ports so it can be used inline with your radio (such as a KX2 barrel plug or a powerpole plug) and fast charge a phone at the same time.
Only one battery on the hill this way - your radio battery!
If anyone is interested message me for the design or I can put on Printables.com & MakerWorld. Few cheap components from online electronic retailers needed.
Checked to be noise free AFAIK… but no not a full scan in a chamber
G5OLD.
Gotcha, cheers Tom @M1EYP. I don’t use data modes but I do use an iPad mini for logging - I’m sure it’d do several activations without needing a recharge but I like the comfort of knowing I have the option.
Do both USB ports stay switched on continuously and independently of each other as long as there’s power coming in Ian @G7ADF? Looks like a good off-the-shelf solution.
That’s the kitty! Nice one Tim @G5OLD. USB A / C / PD is perfect, the barrel connector an absolute bonus. If I knew anyone near me with a 3D printer I’d badger you for the design - the PowerPole attachment is particularly neat though I’d be tempted to make it recessed. Sorry. Born hole-picker here.
Actually (since we’re already into the realms of fantasy) if I had a 3D printer I’d pull apart that digital wattmeter from my recent post and shoe-horn it’s guts into the same package. Might even find a market for that sort of thing.
I can vouch for that. Ran my tiny SA over it. Slight murmur (60db down) around 14Mhz, but that was all I could see on HF.
As far I can tell, yes. From what I remember from when I ordered them (I would look them up from the order but did it on my wifes profile while she was ordering some crafting supplies) they cope easily with 5v @ 2.5A . The Pi and screen and signal link have run from one usb port for about an hour with no obvious problems. I’ve only done the one field test though but hope to do more once the weather at weekends gets a little dryer.
A little bonus is the outer of the usb sockets lights up blue when there is power to the sockets, which is a reminder when nothing works to press the switch to turn it on
At 29g weight (without the powerpole connectors) its almost no extra to slip into the bag.
