I play for the little helpful insects.

Good man. I’ve established 3 acres of traditional hay meadow here. It looks magnificent at this time of year and it’s alive with insects
I have two lawn areas in my garden. The one nearest the house is kept mowed but on the highest setting, the other is a wild flower meadow which after a few years is starting to look pretty good. It will get mowed after the wildlings have set seed.
I always follow No Mow May, mainly because it’s a great excuse to be lazy. With all the dry weather here there’s nothing interesting growing this year.
Lovely bit of music Chris. I’m jealous. !!
Including the grass.
My patch tends to turn into a lake in a wet winter and is slow to dry. I have a particularly fine show of Cuckoo Flower (cardamine pratensis) just starting to go over as the grass grows longer.
Every spring I (re)seed our roadside verge with a thin line of pollinator-friendly wildflowers and – with this drought - am having to water them every day (with rainwater from our almost-empty water butts). Just a load of tiny differently-shaped leaves at the moment but by June onwards they flower to make a nice change from the dandelions and grass elsewhere on the street.
I’m watering some of the young local trees which were planted in our village too. - and like you, using precious water from our water butts.
