New compass invented

The legend that is Wayne from The Map Reading Company, has invented the “first really new compass since 1936”.

Best of all, legend that he is, he’s put it straight to PD. Quote:

“Because the underlying principles are long established, I am releasing this concept into the public domain. No patents, no exclusivity — anyone is free to study it, use it, or manufacture it.”

A great gift. Shame it’ll be on Ali Express in about 97,426 different guises by this evening, but still…

Thank heavens for the ability to skip and jump forward on videos on YouTube or that would be 20mins I’d never get back.

Rather too long for me too.

I wonder how much they’ll cost?

I wish someone would re-invent the little counting device that you could easily fit onto most plastic compasses and you could ‘click’ it’ for every 100m to count distance in the dark or poor visibility. It seems that Silva discontinued those many years ago.

Looks like a good compass design for competitive use such as orienteering. Will be interesting to see if it gets used widely.
