LD SOTA Spring Weekend 2026

As I was very late booking this year’s Autumn event I thought I’d propose a date for Spring 2026.

The weekend of 2nd-3rd May 2026 looks to be free of English & Scottish half terms, Fred Whitton, Great North Swim & Keswick Mountain Festival, but if anyone can think of any other significant clashes let me know ASAP.

…just a thought but 4th May is an English Bank Holiday - don’t know if this makes it better for people, but it probably makes it busier….

Thanks Paul, probably a bit busier, but it seems to depend more on the short-term weather forecast these days.

I wonder if it would actually a benefit for the non-retired folk amongst us to get an extra day in the Lakes without eating into holiday entitlement?

Spring is always a tricky one for me as most family birthdays fall then, and I’ve been berated enough over the years for organizing things on birthday weekends.

Cheers, Mark.

May day bank holiday works for me as it makes travelling up and down to the Lakes less onerous, but I acknowledge it could be a busy weekend (even without ant special events).

I think it’s worth keeping it on this weekend, given that we have plenty of notice in place. I don’t work Mondays at the moment so that also might work to my advantage. I guess there is only really one way to find out if this is going to work, and that is to try it once.

Is anyone coming up to LD this weekend…?

I probably won’t drive over, but I hope to get out to a local hill to provide some non-LD variety

I’ll be here, but TBH I’ve not heard from many people whether they will be visiting. I’ll guess we’ll see on the day!

Myself and Jake, M0PVC, are in the Lakes over the weekend. Here are our planned activations:

We’ll either do Grisedale Pike or Grasmoor on the Monday.

Hopefully catch some of you on the summits! 73 - M1TJM

Hoping here that some of you also take their shortwave tools on the LD summits!

Enjoy, vy 73, Markus

Well, the weather is looking rather disastrous!

We’re bringing HF for 40 and 20m, but if the rain is really pouring, then it’s unlikely we’ll be able to set it up and still enjoy ourselves.

Remaining optimistic!

Looking on https://mwis.org.uk Saturday looks like a reasonable day, with rain not expected till later. However, as we all know - especially in the Lake District - things can change hour by hour.

Mark.

Thanks for the contact on Pike O Blisco today G/LD-024, Plan for Old Man of Coniston tomorrow and something on Saturday, :grinning:

Is there a get together in the pub this year?

Yes it will be at the Elleray in Windermere from 6:30pm on Saturday.

Blencathra was a wonderful activation today. We even had our first 6m contact, which was also a S2S :raising_hands:

We setup VHF, UHF, and HF on the summit and had many inquisitive members of the public. Always keen to promote the hobby and SOTA.

Two American chaps were most interested and said that this “amateur radio” sounded a lot like Ham Radio… maybe I should’ve just gone with that to start with :joy:

We are now set up at the campsite and the rain is holding off for now… Onwards to tomorrow, we are planning Great Gable and Kirk Fell. We are bringing QRP HF with us, which is highly weather dependent.

Hoping to catch a few of you tomorrow on the air! 73 - M1TJM

You’re doing some of the best summits in my opinion!
Have fun tomorrow.
