LD SOTA Spring Weekend 2026

A nice ride on the BMW GSA today into the Northern Lakes then up into the clouds on Low Fell G/LD-042 for me - another one of the few remaining to complete all LD summits.

The last couple of new-to-me summits have been really surprising for views, and the view from Low Fell is stunning - or at least it was on the descent when the clouds finally lifted.

Good contacts in to the Lake District and Scotland with a few S2S and there were definitely more people out than I expected. HF was very poor with only a couple of contacts on each of 20m and 40m. I was on summit for about an hour.

I was delighted to hear your faint call to my first CQ calls from Hallin Fell G/LD-043 this morning. I wasn’t at all confident of 2m contacts being dominated by higher ground to the south.

So the S2S with you guaranteed the 2026 Challenge multiplier, and I had the 20m GP with me if needed to eke out 3 more QSOs. As it was, I got two more on 2m SSB and one on 2m FM. Much easier than I’d anticipated!

For anyone coming to the Elleray this evening I’m opposite the bar in a black FARS polo.

Sorry I can’t join you in person this evening. I had a good day on the fells though I thInk I only managed to chase 2 LD fells (both doubles). Quite a few activators out today. 2m was THE band. 20 & 40m were quite quiet.

Great Whernside was fairly busy, but I had the shelter (away from the trig) all to myself and was quite snug out of the wind. Only issue was my pole bottom bung came off. I burrowed down through the stones (very carefully as you never know what someone might have laid under a stone :poop: ), but could not find it :slightly_frowning_face: . Enjoy tonight

Strange, a similar thing happened to me on my summit (mine is a 3D printed plastic insert). I only noticed when I collapsed the pole to pack up so I’m not sure how I managed to break it and lose it.

Thanks for the S2S, I didn’t manage to work any LD summits from mine.

Thanks for the s2s to Broomy law GM/SS-209.

HF was poor but 2m made up for it.

I was on the bus to the start point today, the ST needs some preparation for the trip up to GM/NS in a few weeks time. Hopefully the HF condions improve for that.
