In a world characterised by mistrust, I find this action by the Lemberghütte (DM/BW-038) host family all the more astonishing: the hut was closed during the week as usual, but the hosts placed drinks (apple juice, beer, cola, mineral water) and small sweets (jelly babies, chocolate) freely under the canopy, with a cash box next to it where you are supposed to put your money. A small sign explains the principle:
“Dear guests,
We would like to offer you a little refreshment with drinks and sweets after the strenuous walk up here.
Of course, this offer depends on the honesty of our guests and can only be continued if everyone is fair.
We hope you enjoy your time up here and look forward to welcoming you on Sundays when the hut is open.
You can find the opening hours at www.lemberg-huette.de
Best regards!
Katharina and Daniel with Elena”
And another note read:
“No cash with you?
Then simply transfer money to our account xxx@xxx via Paypal
Thank you!”
I hope that hikers will be honest also in the future, because I think this service is great!
By the way: A beautiful mountain with a 33 metre high steel tower, which was built in 1899, a very spacious meadow with plenty of room to build antennas, beautiful wooden benches with tables and a rather steep but short climb (also easily accessible by bus: from Gosheim town hall you walk 50 minutes) and offers a great view over the Swabian Alb, the Black Forest and parts of the Alps.
