I also have the Altberg Mallerstang. Not been worn for five years, as I don’t go mountain walking in winter now. Good strong boot for winter conditions I agree, albeit they are rather heavy. I generally wear a basic Scarpa leather boot now, or if ground conditions are expected to be dry enough, a very comfortable Meindl fabric boot.
Yeah i have a milestone birthday coming up early next year so might take a trip out to Altberg factory. i love their website and being a local boot company making good products, and the different fitting options etc.
they also stock meindl apparently according to meindl website so have the two main companies in one place
