HamClock EoL

Just for folks that might use HamClock, the software will cease to function after June 2026. The software is end of life from a message posted on the Web site.

The developer has sadly passed away. RIP to Elwood Downey, WB0OEW SK.

Wonder if the firmware can be open sourced?

The client code is apparently open source. There is some discussion on the Amsat forum about mod’ing the code to use an alternate back-end / data sources.

VE9CF posted a youtube video this morning or late last night on a new maybe replacement.

HamClock Alternative REVEALED: Community Builds OpenHamClock After Loss of Legend WB0OEW

The current version of OpenHamClock does not yet support the selection of SOTA spots (only POTA at this stage).

Until it is implemented, I started an experimental proxy for the SOTA cluster, so that you can already enjoy all the features even for the SOTA spots.

OpenHamClock now fully supports SOTA (and WWFF and POTA) !

Very nice. In the lower right, click POTA, then map off. Then click WWFF and map off. What remains is SOTA, and the targets can be clicked for six digit locator and lat/long. Among the map overlay settings, “political” is good. Click on a map open space, and the round blue “DX” moves to that spot, allowing target info to appear in the left panel.
