Hi Chris
I started off with a Sotabeams pole, but it wouldn’t fit in my rucksack either - another SOTA fan told me about https://lifebreeze.co.uk/ which had a travel pole which when collapsed fits into your bag - I guess the compact one from Sotabeams will will too. My mast is only about 13ft high extended - as someone told me when I was starting out, there isn’t much to be gained by adding an extra foot or two when you’re stood at the top of a 3000ft hill
Hello, a short report of our activity on 19 sep from YO/EC-476 Bâtca.
We were 3 operators, YO8AGA, YO8SSQ and YO8SBR, all /p. The day was a typical autumn day, hot and cold at the same time, but fine nonetheless. We activated the summit for about 4 hours, worked in 70cm, 2m (FM) and 20m, 40m (SSB) for a total of 70 QSOs (one of which PSK31) and 20 S2S contacts. The 17m band was dead in the water.
Hello
My summit: OK/US-001 JO60nl
I recived a call:
10:44UTC
I heard: 9A2HW/p from 9A/?H-002
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ? = I heard ‘two’ , this is not available, may be ‘Zulu’ = Z
The OM wars very patient. He repeate at least 5 times the referenc.
I gave him the report 33 an received 59. Really? (My TRX has 50Watts + Yagi G=8dBd)
I had a lot of QRM from other stations, too much.
I’m sure of the callsign and report.
But the database show:
9A6AA/P on 9A/ZH-002
9A2GA/P on 9A/GH-073
More than 500km on FM!
Does someone have an info?
I know the QSO is not valid. It’s only for interest.
Such good (Tropo)conditions are very rare.
Hans,
I do not quite understand why the QSO would not be valid.
You have call and report, 9A/ZH is the only 9A region with a “U”: DH delta, GH golf, IH India, PH Papa.
There is no possibility of confusion, at least if Nato alphabet was used.
So you have all information you need.
Sota program is based on honsesty so it*s up to you if you insist on gaining the chaser points or not. At least it was a valid “standard” QSO. congrats 2m DX.

Hi Martin,
I am totally agree.
There is also question how to count S2S QSOs logged a few times on the same band using the same modulation with the same operator activating the same summit.
After checking my log I found one such a dupe did by mistake with ON4FI/P on 30m CW.
Should be: one band, one modulation, one summit, one operator, no more than one QSO.
Of course decision is not mine
I did so but I am now talking not about the score but about interpretation of the rule: Number of S2S contacts This is a ranking of activators with the highest number of S2S contacts made on that day.
Another point would also be by when a participant in this event has to upload his results to the SOTA DB in order to be included in the ranking list for the Swiss Army Knifes …
