An actual Ten-Tec video Today:
So the story with this one is that I got it as part of a package deal with an Oak Hills digital display that I wanted for my Ten-Tec Century 21. It needed some love to get it working again, but it’s a pretty nice little 40 meter QRP rig. Ten-Tec sold these as kits starting in 2001 for around $85. You could get them in several bands. It puts out about 3 to 4 watts. Nice sounding RX - a bit hissy but apparently there is a simple mod for the LM386 to cut down the hissing.

That’s a good looking rig… Jealous!
Looks like it!

And another one:
@NN7M thanks for QSYing to 7.034 for me. 7.033 is as low as she goes! I could hear you fine on 7.032 by using the RIT, but you wouldn’t have heard my signal because it would be too far off freq.
With this kit you get 50KHz of the band. Tuning range is set by the winding of one toroid in the VFO circuit.
That’s a rare radio. I have seen the 21 but not the 22. Wow!
(Pretty clean, you dusted it well!)

After many months of sitting on my workbench in pieces, I finally had the time and motivation to finish fixing my Ten-Tec Argonaut V. It came to me with no output. A big thanks to Rich AC7MA for help with troubleshooting and general moral support during the repair. Turned out to be bad finals and a bad transformer. Getting genuine finals was a MAJOR ordeal. I tried 3 different reputable parts places, and all 3 times they sent me junk from China that was some other part that had been washed and re-stamped. I finally found a guy in the UK who had some genuine parts!
The radio is great. The audio is a little more harsh than my C21 / C22, but still sounds pretty good. I am in love with that front panel - looks very nice! Here are a few chases that I made Today… the sun was shining here so there were quite a few W7W activators out. Thanks @AC7MA @WA7NCL @K5EM @NN7M
The Kenwood TS-450S was the first HF rig I ever bought. I used it for many years - it is the veteran of many Field Days and Salmon Runs (WA state QSO party). During a Salmon Run field expedition one year it suddenly developed a problem on 20 meters. Many years later… I finally fixed it! Here she is in all her glory, making a couple of SOTA QSOs. Thanks @K7UOU and @WB2FUV for the QSOs.
I always thought that the Kenwood equipment of the TS-450 era really looked top-notch million dollar stuff. Nice displays, nice feel to the buttons and knobs, elegant fonts and legends. It made the whole package feel quality.
Awesome, Josh.
Here’s the sad part. I had my K1 with me, which I used on the next summit (W6/CT-067)! It could have been a K1 to K1 QSO.
I just picked one up – probably paid more than I should have for it, but it’s a great little radio. It’s now my 100W “field radio”. I liken it to being the modern equivalent of the old TT Triton IV. Simple, compact, rugged.

Picked up a new bit of vintage Ten-Tec kit at a swapmeet yesterday:
Thanks @N0OI for being my first victim
i maybe biased but i prefer the audio and using a Kenwood rig over any other make of rig. The audio is easy to listen to for a full day at a special event station where as yaesu i just cant listen to it all day.
I’ve just always prefered kenwoods.
Grrrrr! I was just perusing eBay last night and came across a lovely K1 in an SK sale which had 4 bands (40/30/20/15) and the ATU and filter options. But I didn’t study the sale options, it wasn’t an auction but buy-it-now. So I came back this morning to bid having convinced myself I needed it and it has been sold. Annoying because I really, really needed it
“Buy-it-now”
And
“Last night”
Can be a toxic combination! Could be worse…
Here is your consolation prize… a video of me having a QRPp contact with @N6MTB - Bill was using a Rockmite. Enjoy
