I take no points for this mod as it was seen on Youtube but thought I would share it here, it makes total sense that an antenna needs a good counterpoise but I thought I would try it against the standard handheld with it giving amazing results with me being able to activate 5 repeaters three on VHF and Two on 70cms in three difference directions that I could not even hear on the standard Handheld. The tests were made with the handheld sitting in exactly the same spot on a garden table and me as near as I could remaining in the same position All it involves is using a 20 inch counterpoise for your handhelds antenna. In my case I just made a simple loop at one end which went over the ground side of the antenna.I cannot stress how much difference it made to the signals .
