Activating the mountains of Teneriffa

Hello friends, om’s, ham’s,

I am planning to activate 8 days long as many SOTA summits as possible in Teneriffa (EA8/TF) over the period of 30.10 to 06.11.2023
I will operating VHF FM around 145.500 and also 10m -(12m - 15m) - 20m - 40m SSB (5W).

I’m post each day on the reflector the following planned summits.
Also u can add me on SOTA Spotter with the callsign EA8/IN3JIB/P.

I’m also open for hints, information about Teneriffa :wink:

I look forward to working with as many as I can.

Hi Julian,

Thanks for preparing the mountains for Teneriffa for more SOTA activities.
I will take over from the 4th of November on and will stay for 2 weeks and will try to activate more of less every summit. Teide most likely not as I was too late for a permit.

Hello Joe,

My plan is also to activate every summit but in 8 days its not that easy.
You can activate Teide after 6pm and if u wanna make it official you can get your permit here. Don’t forget your headlight

Would be awesome if we meet by a beer or on an activation.

Okay that is good news that it is possible at a later time. Will need to bring warm cloth and a headlamp. Thanks for the hint. I see an adventure with some 10m DX in the evening coming up :slight_smile:

I will arrive on the 4th in the late afternoon. So 5th would be the only option I guess.

Yes you normally need a permit to go on top of Teide if the cable car is running. i did the activation last year when the cable car was not running due to wind. We did all the way up then without cablecar. It was a very beautifull hike up in this wonderfull landscape. And the wind was as well not really a problem except the last few hundert meters to the top. There it was sometimes quite tricky to continue and that was the reason that my activation was quite short.

And this island is most beautifull at about 1000m upwards :slight_smile:

I will activate the Teide after 6pm or before 9am.
And yes I will go hike the 1400m too :wink:
Not only the summit counts.

Be aware that few summits are located in protected areas and legal acess to them is not possible, like to EA8/TF-005.

Thanks for this reminder. I read that off-trail walking in protected areas is illegal. But I could not find which areas are protected at that level.

(Which would make all activations of EA8/TF-005 null and void - but that is a different story).

So looking at that map most summits are within at least a protected area or a national park.

Update 31.11.2023

Today I activated four peaks:

My shortened End Fed was perfect, because the space was not that big and open on some peaks.

A radio with integrated tuner and maybe 10W would be nice haha maybe I’m buying a KX2.

Update 01.11.2023

Today I was activating the highest point in Spain
Pico del Teide with 3715m.

It was very windy and cold :cold_face: I could only activate 2m FM .

And very good to know that there is so much activity on 2m FM.
My alert is placed for the 9th of November. Might shift it depending on wx.
