How to obtain authorisation (‘Autorizacion’) to operate in Spain as a Foundation or Intermediate licence holder.

I am indebted to Omar/M9MOS for his help and encouragement and pointing me in the right direction = ie Fediea.

Contact :- https://www.fediea.org/ (this website has an English language version) by email fediea@fediea.organd say you wish to join Fediea. This cost me around 12 Euro. You get a bonus insurance certificate for your aerials in Spain.

(Fediea is an association which works to support amateur radio in Spain)

NB. All emails from them were in perfect English.

Ask them if they would apply for a temporary licence on your behalf.

a. They’ll ask you for a separate copy of your passport ID, passport number & Ofcom licence in separate files and in PDF format, along with the address you will be staying at in Spain.

b. They will send the documents back to you for your signature.

c. You will be asked to provide the make/model of the radio/s you will be using. (this appears on your ‘Authorizacion‘ along with the frequencies you can use, power, etc.,
I received my Autorizacion back within a few days - definitely not weeks.!

The authorization also informs you that you must stay within the restrictions or limits of your RSGB Intermediate or Foundation licence,
NB. The authorization is in Spanish

Thanks David - as you have demonstrated - it’s very inexpensive to join FediEA , and utilising their service makes it easy.

Note there two membership tiers: Basic 5 €* or Standard 10 €*
The latter includes their Legal Service - I’m not sure whether the application process fits into that category, but it’s so inexpensive that you needn’t consider the basic membership.

The ‘direct’ application method is below (just in case an applicant speaks Spanish, or they’re absolutely desperate to save a few Euros).

Email the following documents (in Spanish) to radioaficionados@economia.gob.es :

1- A completed “type 7” application form. Complete it online here FEDI-EA - Application for Authorization for non resident foreigners - Trámites - la Radioafición , then download it as a PDF ready to send with your other documents.

2- A PDF copy of your UK license.

3- A PDF copy of your passport.

4- A cover letter with the following information:
(a) - The address where you will be staying, and the dates of your stay.
(b) - Description of the station to be used (make, model, serial number, frequency band, power and period of use).

Keep copies in case you get an email back requiring any of them to be signed, scanned and sent back.

If you receive an email (in Spanish) stating that your authorisation is ready to download - but you don’t have a Spanish/EU Digital ID to access their portal - email them back stating that you don’t have a Digital ID (non-resident) and they will email it back to you.
