433 Alive - Sunday 24th August 12 Noon till 3pm BST

As per the 433 Alive Facebook Group:
The 6th 433 Alive event from 12:00 to 15:00 BST (11:00 to 14:00UTC) on Sunday 24th August 2025 . Times are not critical, if you want to start earlier or be on later, that is fine.

Last time out I made 23 contacts over the three hour period with a mix of longer ragchew style and shorter qsos with 35W into a J-Pole.

Its not a contest, so can just pop in and out at your pleasure and no special information needed. Having said that, knowing your locator square does allow me to draw pretty maps after the event

I will probably pick G/SP-017 again for this one, depending on the weather.

Hope to work a few of you on the day.

Thanks for the heads up Ian, Hopefully I will have some improved equipment this time with a better more usable Antenna, Not sure of the Location Yet ( weather dependant) but it will be in Shropshire.

Just a quick bump reminder that 433 alive will take part this Sunday for those looking for some 70cm FM action. Main times are between 12Noon till 3pm clock time (11:00 to 14:00 UTC).

I should be on G/SP-017 Billinge Hill and the weather is looking favourable to deploy the beam (vertically) and with 35W of pure FM goodness hopefully can get quite a few in the log.

Peter M1BZJ will be on summit too probably on 2m, but I will take the 23cm stuff so he may use that too or I will when a natural break comes along.

Its not a contest, and rag chewers are welcome although knowing your locator square helps me make a pretty map afterwards  but not essential.

I’ll try and hobble up somewhere with 70 and 23cm.

I hope to be at Sleve Donard GI/MM-001 around 1pm and then to Commedagh GI/MM-002 around 3pm. Will do my regular 2m FM first and try 70cm. Will have Yagi for both.

I will try and get out shortly and chase. I’ll take my 7m pole and Slim G. Might be a tall order to get to you but I’ll try!

I’ll stick you in Ham Alert so and hope to be listening around 3pm. If you are still about, maybe we could sked a 2m attempt?

Woohoo! I got you 599+1 million, so loud my FT65 nearly exploded! 70cm straight to Mourne!

I could see the mountains in the distance. You said you adjusted your antenna a few times but you were always 599. All good.

I forgot my PL to SMA adapter so could not use my mast! Used my RH770 to get you instead.

70cm. What a beaut of a band! Great job Alex!

EDIT: I also bagged MM0GTX up in Mull of Kintyre. Running ny 5w, he was on 60w. Lovely 2m contact!

EDIT 2: Also G7ADF over on G/SP017 with a handsome 599, 57 returned. 5w again on 70cm.

A handful of QSO’s on each of our beloved 2 and 70cm bands. Great to see both bands hoppin’ today, as they should always be. Lovely!

5 in the log from my home QTH the farthest being G7ADF/P at 63.9 miles, not bad for UHF.

I heard your call on 433.500 and you heard my reply (the portable station) and then as you announced the qsy frequency someone (who couldn’t hear either of us presumably) called CQ.

I thought my chance of EI/GI had gone despite a couple of calls in that direction but ….

Right near the end of my operation. Cracking signal too.

4 summits to summits (6 if you count I worked two on both 70cm and 23cm). 2 summit to summits got away. G4TCU/P on CE-002, I could hear him 51 but stronger local signals prevented my replies getting through. And MI/EI4JY/P which is explained above, although that would have been marginal and a bit of work to get I think.

22 on 70cm and 6 on 23cm made a good afternoon out in the wilds that is Billinge Hill.

Great day out. I fear the next one maybe in cooler weather

I managed 8 contacts 3 summit to summits and the longest distance to Ian G7ADF/P AT 78 miles( with an improved report to last time) with my 1 watt and a Flowerpot antenna. I then went on to make a few 2 meter contacts from Clee Hill Village. I tested the corner reflector shield when I was in Cleehill Village but unfortunately it nulled out the stations I was trying to talk to ! A home brew small yagi is my next project or maybe a moxon beam.

Good fun anyway !

I listened for you on 2m when your spot came through but couldn’t hear anything. Should have been an easy summit to summt.

Well, my 433 operation was quite a bit erratic this time. I was hiding on the northern slope of Slieve Donard to get some shelter from the wind. As a result I was a bit disoriented by what direction I should point my beam to. The South and South-East was completely obstructed by the summit’s top and when I’ve heard Marty @EI2IAB from Meath and Ian @EI3LH from Dublin I said to myself that something is not right (for 433 anyway) as I was ponting the beam westwards. After turning the beam while on QSO with Ian, my westward direction was still coming with the best signal and then I’ve realised that it was likely reflected from Slieve Commedagh somehow.
I did hear another station calling me and now it is clearly @G7ADF  However I’ve failed to point the beam correctly so a QSO never happened.
Still two 70cm QSOs in the log, not far but really interesting and challenging experience!

Not sure what you were adjusting on the first summit, but no matter what you did you were absolutely battering EI to a pulp with a scandalously strong 70cm signal of 599+π!

I had to head off before you got to your second summit unfortunately. I did head out later to a POTA site (just to hunt some QSO’s) for CW on 20m (my KX2 finally showed up on RBN @DH5ST , at long last!). I got two CW QSO’s!

HB9/YT0K/P and then this cool special edition QSO in Spain, ED5FSB. Any CW folks have a look at that callsign and try and hunt it before it expires any day now. I need to email them for a special card! Didn’t do any voice, just CW. Got a few folks keen to learn more about CW so I stopped for the chats and to pet their dogs! Told them to go to Hamfest Mullingar next month too!

I did scan 2 and 70 again and got a few stations in the UK but ran out of time to make a QSO. Conditions seemed very amicable for 2 and 70 today. I noticed later this evening there was some E’s on 6 meters for a while too. Looks like that door has closed now.

Didn’t see any PSK reports on 5 meters and 8 meters alas. :frowning:

Join the club , I made my firsts number of calls with the RX CTCSS tones on and was convinced the receive of the little handy had given up as I could see signals but there was no sound ! Luckily I was sheltering in one of the Carins on Titterstone Clee which gave me some large stones to bang my head on when I found out what was wrong !

I called back to numerous times as were others but we gathered you had tones or a split on. Im glad you worked it out in the end @M0PAB

Were you by any chance in QSO with M0PVM/P on the Licky Hills ? I took the CTCSS tones off and immediately heard him talking to someone else making the same comment about splits but it never clicked he was talking about me !

Yes I believe so mate, plenty were calling you before you took tones off. :+1:

Any idea when the next 433alive is ?

They are usually about 3 months apart.

So expecting sometime in November.
