Mighty Mite Weekend

Lots of us here have Rock Mites. Who would be interested in holding a Mighty Mite Weekend? Each individual Rock Mite would be allocated a number and maybe there could be a prize for the activator who makes most contacts over a weekend on their Rock Mite(s) and a prize for the chaser who works the most Rock Mites.

Note that if you own more than one Rock Mite they would have different numbers.

SOTAbeams would probably sponsor the prizes if I ask the boss nicely

Sounds good, please organise it for a weekend when I can get a ‘stamp’ from the missus!

In reply to G3CWI:

Hi Richard,

That’s a great idea, count me in.

Count me in if I can get my hands on a Rock Mite quickly.

Last year a similar thing was tried with KD1JV rigs, the ATS Sprint

with very few participants, and only me from Europe!

Could be good if we can drum up some support.

Pete - Dave at Small Wonder Labs is usually very good at sending out orders quickly. RockMites are sent out airmail and I have had a kit arrive 4 days after ordering!

In reply to G3CWI:Yes, good idea! I have a Rock Mite 20 to play with…I only ever had a few QSOs on it.

In reply to GW4OKT:

Excellent. There must be a lot of lonely Rock Mites about. No takers from the birthplace of the Rock Mite yet…

My RM20 operates on 14.0576Mcs and 14.0581Mcs.

In reply to G3CWI:

Richard, for clarlty, how do you define ‘RockMite’?

I know that lots of RockMites have been modified, I only have one, my first, that is in original configuration.

Would ‘clones’ (home brew with pretty much the same electrical circuit) qualify?

Colin M1BUU

In reply to M1BUU:

I think that any radio that is based on the original design would be just fine.

73 Richard G3CWI

In reply to G3CWI:

Thanks for the clarification Richard, looks as though I could be in a good position!

To really push the envelope, would my 2 watt QRO beast also qualify, or is that taking things too far?

I took part in this too from Paris, however it was in the middle of the night due to US start times and condx were dismal. Might be better with easier timimg and and especially now there are more of these radios in Europe/UK.

ps…yes now in AUS

I guess, with a global event, a weekend could run from UTC noon on Friday to UTC noon on Monday, give or take an hour each end.

especially now there are more of these radios in Europe/UK.

Any down under?

In reply to G3CWI:

Hi Richard,

Any luck with the Rockmite in the NA SOTA event last night ?
I listened out for you from GSE-008 but nothing heard here.

73 Robert G0PEB

In reply to M0LEP:
‘Any down under?’

I presume you mean the Rockmite, not come across any yet Rick, however there should be a few tucked away somewhere. ATS series I know of one or two builders here and more are becoming keen as they hear about them.

Andrew

I plan to be out activating using the Rockmite 20 this coming weekend, thought i’d better check it out, will alert closer to the time. I think it has about 300 - 500mW o/p.

73 Robert G0PEB

Dear all

As several people have ordered kits I will not make the weekend too soon. Bear in mind that if everyone buys (say) a kit for 14060kHz the frequency will be rather busy!

No takers from the USA - so far.

I have a Rockmite, Richard, and I plan to use it in my first attempt at solar power from a peak during the aforementioned weekend.

Judging by the weather here, we would be better off with water wheels.
