It was a beautiful, sunny day on Suva Planina when Djole YT3RTX, Miloš YU6TD and I YT3MW set out for the summit YU/JS-033. With clear skies, a light breeze and excellent visibility, we began our hike roughly 3km from the top, enjoying the scenery and each other’s company with our YLs Milena and Milica.
At the summit we quickly raised vertical antenna with 4 radials, mighty IC-705 and began the activation on 20m band, SSB mode. I was the first one to open activity as one with slightly more experience in SOTA activations than my friends. After a few minutes, almost immediately a large pile-up formed and stations around the Europe were lining up one after another with strong signals to chase us. While we kept the frequency under control and coordinated the contacts, we decided about 15 minutes after start to throw our young operator, Djordje (Djole short) YT3RTX, into the fire ended with 27 contacts. The handover went smoothly, Djole quickly found the rhythm, his reports were clear, and he kept stacking up contacts, which made the operation even more fun. This was his first SOTA activation!!!
