YOTA and SOTA

The international Youngsters On The Air Camp (YOTA) is currently going on in Wagrain/Salzburg/Austria and the plan for tomorrow is to send 2 groups of youngsters to two different mountains and allow them to experience/practice portable operation.

One of these groups will do a SOTA activation on
OE/SB-206 Sonntagskogel, the other on
OE/SB-458 Saukarfunktel

Both the callsign OE2YOTA/P and their personal callsigns will be on the air.
Some youngsters will also just use their newly made equipment (QMX and home made antennas) to experiment with it. Please try to work them all and be patient - some of them have neither experience with pileups and may also have problems identifying the callsigns. Will try to help and support them as much as possible…

Thanks a lot in advance!

I really enjoyed working 16 different operators on the two summits yesterday  Signals were good on 2m despite the mountain ridges in between and 200 km distance. I managed to get one hard QSO on 40m CW with strong QSB and then decided to focus on 2m only.

It was also great to work several operators who are younger than me—that doesn’t happen very often!

Best 73s and enjoy the rest of the YOTA camp in Wagrain

This was really great fun, Sylvia. Thank you for spending your free time inspiring so many radio amateurs to participate in SOTA.

Of course it was incredibly exciting to meet you and Andy @OE6ADE !

Hope to catch you both S2S some day soon.
