That must be relatively new Paul? But I’ll add mine and Mrs. LLD’s jalopies to the service.

For those who have asked about not staying on the campsite but coming to meet up I’ve asked the question. The answer is yes you can but they do charge Ā£3 for a visitor. If you wish to come tell them you are visiting the Whitby radio club event.

I have used it on our vehicles for a few years. It was advertised on some DVLA documentation, can’t remember which one, but it is very useful.

The local garage used to text me a reminder.

I’ve got a recurring reminder on my phone calendar now.

Unfortunately I am not signed up to a notification service, never mind, I’ve learnt the hard way :see_no_evil_monkey: hoping it will pass with flying colours in the morning, and we’ll be heading north.

I’m going, often light rain in the forecast doesn’t materialise and it just means reverting to how 75% of the year is weather wise. So I’ll still be able to wave across to Sharp Haw from about 10 onwards.

They do. If you subscribe for their reminder service, you get a text a month before, which is when you can legally test it and still maintain the previous test date anniversary.

I used to have reminders setup on my work laptop calendar which is now a thing of the past  And I always used the 13month window to get the MOT done as soon as possible just in case there was some work/repair needed. Now all the vehicles are on the reminder service.

Don’t jinx it!

Well I’ve decided to activate tomorrow. I keep reviewing the weather and the forecast keeps changing for the better.

Due to unforseen circumstance, I’ve had to cancel my activation today.

Ian

Im in Buckden ready to start the hike.

Blue skies and very windy

First time I’ve been cold for several weeks. Packed up when the fog reduced visibility to 20m.

Hope everyone got up and down safely.

Shot from Birks Fell before the start. 16 in the log inc 5 S2S.

Looks tropical compared to Great Shunner Fell

A bit grim on Calf Top too….

On the plus side it was so windy that Woodys barking was drowned out by the wind….

(PS excellent pub at the bottom of the hill in Barbon)

Congratulations to all the activators today, conditions were grim. Sharron and I bailed out and supported Jake and Gary in their 3 peak challenge.

Good news is though that I’m now looking at making this into an annual event, keep a date in your diary for the 1st weekend in August.

It was good to talking to everyone today, and very rewarding facing the elements.

It was a good learning experience for me. In no particular order:

  • Buy a waterproof notepad
  • Don’t use a notepad app that does have auotosave or undo
  • Put a towl and dry clothes in the car
  • Learn how to put up the wind shelter beforehand
  • Put up the wind shelter before getting your kit out
  • Choose a sunnier day

Great idea. I couldnt make it today unfortunately, but a diary date would please my wife.

Might be worth just checking on other major events like VHF contests or IOTA contests that take place around this time of year..

I’d highly recommend Rite in the Rain pads, as well as Fisher Space Pens. You can either just buy Fisher pens, you can get a fisher refill that fits a normal ā€œParker-typeā€ G2 cartridge for various other pens (my preferred option), or Rite in the Rain do tiny wee Pokka pens with tiny wee Fisher cartridges inside (my usual backup pen).
