Between 11/08 and 16/08 I will be QRV from a list of summits located in the middle of Romania, as follows: Transalpina alpine road (YO/MC-052 Mohoru & YO/MC-050 Setea Mare), Transfagarasan alpine road (YO/MC-007 Vanatoarea lui Buteanu & YO/MC-049 Fantana), Bucegi mountains (YO/MC-009 Costila, YO/MC-006 Omu & YO/MC-008 Bucsoiu) and the outskirts of Brasov (YO/EC-252 Piatra Arsa, YO/EC-331 Spinarea Lunga & YO/EC-428 Lempes). Most of the summits will be 10 points activations, so keep an eye on SOTA cluster! Preferred band will be 20m and also 12m if the propagation allows. This marathon depends A LOT on good weather, will see what happens in that week on romanian mountains.
In reply to YO2MSB:
Interesting info, thanks. What operating modes will you offer?
73, Heinz HB9BCB
In reply to HB9BCB:
Only SSB, 20W from an SG-2020.
73!
In reply to YO2MSB:
Wow, talk about coincidence, I am planning to do a marathon in the same week (Aug. 9 to Aug 17), still haven’t decided on the exact route but it will include Moldoveanu YO/MC-001 and Papusa YO/MC-014. I will do Costila/Omu/Bucsoiu as well, on the Aug 2-3 weekend if the weather is fine.
Good luck !
In reply to YO9IRF:
Nice to hear that Razvan! If you want, we could try to meet somewhere in the mountains and make some activations together.
Good luck also to you!
In reply to YO2MSB:
Must be a beautiful tour. Enjoy and good luck with the weather.
73, Hans PB2T
In reply to PB2T:
Tnx Hans! It is the tour we spoke about together with Paul @ Friedrichshafen. I will do it this year and maybe in august 2015 we could make it as a bigger team, maybe also with you & Paul in the team?
The more info & details I found every day about these locations makes me even more anxious to do it. It is possible to organise a caravan this year with some hams from Timisoara and it is possible to include also YO/MC-078 Bora to the list of Transalpina activations. Zoli told me that this summit is very close to the alpine road and we could do a quick activation also on this summit.
Generally speaking, we can make almost 100 points in 5 days… not bad!
In reply to YO2MSB:
Hi Sorin,
I’ve already got the dates marked in my 2015 calendar. Can’t wait!
73, CUL
Paul
In reply to YO2MSB:
Sure we can do that, plus some scheduled S2S would be great also. I’ll send you an email in the next few days.
By the way, 2 days ago I activated Ciucas peak, YO/EC-049 ;).

In reply to HB9DST:
OK Paul, will be my pleasure to activate together with you and maybe with other activators that read this topic. 73, CUL!
In reply to YO9IRF:
Well done again! You make me proud Hope to meet you on activations, details on email. 73!
Just added today to the list YO/MC-078 Bora, YO/MC-086 Vanturisul, YO/EC-011 Postavaru & YO/EC-247 Runcu. Possible to do all of them if the weather will allow. 118 points in 5 days.
Preparings are already done, remains to measure & test 2nd antenna on Saturday.
The team will be small: first day maybe together with Zoli YO2BP/P (not confirmed), second day alone & from the third day together with Adrian YO6HDF.
Weather forecast seems to be acceptable, 20…30% chance of rain in one or two days, the rest of them without rain, wind estimate at max. 20km/h. Too good to be true, hihi!
The weather seems to be beautiful all the week, without rain, so starting from tomorrow I will be QRV as presented here.
The complete team will be: Zoli YO2BP (only monday), Razvan YO9IRF, Petronel YO8SEP, Adrian YO6HDF (from Wednesday) & maybe Csaba YO6PIB (last days). Most probable will make two stations in the same time, in different bands, with operator exchange.
Hope to copy you all on activations! Spots will be posted here on SOTA cluster for each activation and callsign.

Hello Sorin and others 8)
Will listen out for you all. Big storm here in the SE UK today which has now passed and the sun has returned.
Good luck
Mike
In reply to G6TUH:
Tnx Mike! As always, I’m sure you will be there on 14.285. Hope to give you at least 100 points as chaser, hi!
73 'til tomorrow!
In reply to YO2MSB:
“…I’m sure you will be there on 14.285.”
Ah Sorin but with my SDR I can ‘see’ the most of any band so I tend to ignore big/wide signal spikes (QRO) and check out the little spikes on the display!
Hope tomorrow that the wx is ok for you all.
Night night
Mike

"… with my SDR I can ‘see’ the most of any band…"
So THAT is the secret, hi! I was wondering how can you be there the first, every time. Tnx for being there, dear friend. As always, will be my pleasure to give you a real 5/9, you’re always a strong signal. If I will have GSM signal, I will spot each activation to this cluster. See ya!
In reply to G6TUH:
Thanks alot everybody for chasing our activations and for the support on the air and on the cluster, it really was great to feel people next to us even from thousands of kilometers away. Mike, G6TUH - extra special thanks, you were really like the 4th member of our team, always being there to work each activator on each activation and each band, always spotting us on the cluster, absolutely awesome. Manuel EA2DT, Hans PB2T, Jim EI9GLB, Michael DJ5AV, Pedro EA2CKX and all the other guys I can’t remember now - thanks !
The tour is almost over, but you will still see Petronel YO8SEP/P activate one or two peaks during the next week. The main team (YO9IRF, YO2MSB and YO8SEP) managed to activate 7 peaks (most of them virgin) in 4 days - six 10 point peaks, one 8-pointer, for a total of 68 points. We had the pleasure to work alongside YO2BP in the first day, and on Friday we split up: YO2MSB and I activated another 8 point peak (YO/EC-011), and then he activated another 4 point peak (YO/EC-428) with Csaba YO6PIB; in total, we managed to offer 80 points in 5 days for the chasers.
I also want to offer my public congratulations to Sorin YO2MSB for putting this tour together, we’re already decided to do this again the next year - bigger, better, with more people joining in.
Expect pictures and an article written about this in the next few days.
Razvan YO9IRF
In reply to YO9IRF:
Hello Razvan,
Thanks for the kind comment. Well done the team and Sorin for getting it together. From my point of view it was a chaser challenge and great fun. Two memories - Zoli was on 18Mhz I think and he had just finished his CQ and I called him back and he just laughed. The second memory, I cannot recall the summit, was when you were operating in very high winds the noise of which was being transmitted plus your antenna was moving around in the wind - S8 one second and nothing the next second.
I will listen out for Petronel in the next week. I missed him this morning when he was on MC-033 as I was in the forest taking the dog for a walk 8(
Very best wishes to you all and look forward to the YO adventure next year.
Mike
Hi Razvan, I should have mentioned this and forgot. G0RQL Don posted this thread - you may all have missed it so…
vy best wishes
Night night
Mike
Reflector :: Wonderful Thought
Post by G0RQL on 11th August 2014 at 09:32
I think that is a wonderful thought from our Romanian activators to dedicate their activation today 11/08/14 to one of our fellow chasers Andy, MM0USU.SK.
Thank you all. 73 Don
In reply to G6TUH:
I was geocaching today with some friends (part of an event) and one cache was close to YO/MC-033. So, I decided to take out my antenna and KX3 and do a fast activation. Sorry Mike that I didn’t had time to put an alert.
The conditions weren’t great: 5 broadcasting/GSM towers close (under 100m) and the weather going bad. It rained 30 minutes after I left.
I might activate one or two more peaks on next 2 days, but that depends on XYL and our geocaching/hiking plans. I will try to put some alerts.
YO8SEP,
Petronel
