Xiegu X6200 first impressions

Hi all

I was collecting my car from Cheltenham yesterday evening, so I decided on a first outing with the X6200 on G/CE-001

First impressions of the radio:

  • Display is good - very visible, even in full sunlight
  • Rx seems to be pretty robust and birdie-free on the HF bands
  • The S meter under-reads significantly. Signals that are S9+10 on my IC-7300 are S7 on the X6200
  • The noise reduction creates some odd squirly noises when there is only noise present
  • Tx audio received good reports
  • The internal ATU is excellent
  • Although the max power is supposedly reduced to 8W (vs 10W on the X6100), as far as I can tell it’s actually peaking 10W on SSB
  • Reducing the power to 3W it played very nicely with the 50W mini PA
  • It works nicely with FT8CN for FT8, with an OTG adapter. Just use the X6100 config
  • It gets pretty warm. Dont operate at more than 12V or it will get very warm
  • The internal battery lasts well, but charges very slowly

A short while into the activation a chap turned up with a pot of white emulsion and painted the trig point … I spent more time talking with him than talking on the radio.

Cheers

Hi Rick,
You might want to join the X6200 group. The issues you have found have already been documented and will be submitted “through channels” back to Xiegu as a consolidated document so that a firmware update can be created to resolve problems.
I don’t personally have an X-6200 but I suspect the problem with recharging the exchangeable battery is down to the charger rather than the battery and that is why early adopters were given a spare battery with the radio.

The email list is on groups.io and called xiegu-x6200

For those not on the groups.io list - here is an announcement of the first firmware update to the X6200 - thanks Klaus DG5EAU for spotting this:

Xiegu just released the first Xiegu X6200 update. According to their release notes it does include the following fixes:

· Adds transceiver audio equalizer

· Adds display adjustment options, bandwidth/spectrum/waterfall color, etc

· Adds the spectrum center line switch, the user can choose to turn those on or off

· Adds MFK variable step

· Adds voice compression

· Adds automatic screen backlight dimming/off

· Adds CW decoder threshold adjustment

· Adds the waterfall map translation switch, the waterfall map will translate with the frequency change after opening

· Optimizes frequency spectrum display speed, more smooth

· Optimizes spectrum and waterfall automatic level, better signal contrast, easier to see clearly

· Optimizes the function key operation logic (some switch parameters can be adjusted directly by pressing the button without turning the MFK knob, easy to operate)

· Fixes some display content display incomplete issue

· Fixes the power alarm bug

· Fixes the CW auto key bug

· Fixes the transmit power control bug (voice plosive sound, such as “p”, “t”, etc., is prone to make popping sound)

You find the update file within the Radioddity Support section. www.radioddity.com → Support → Xiegu → X6200 → Firmware V1.0.1
