If you oversample then you can do antialias filtering in DSP.

This was a marketing article (and it shows) - so Marketing managers like Jackson, like to throw in words like “robust” if they can! And they play with technical facts only to the level where it sells more radios.

You are 100% correct, until this radio goes through some verifiable, repeatable tests we won’t know how good or bad it is “for the price”.
It’s a shame but it doesn’t look like any dealers at Friedrichshafen will have it there (not that I intend to buy another radio).

Nevertheless you have to ensure that there is no significant signal content above fs/2. Signals above n*fs/2 (with n>1 to infinity) will be folded back into the range 0-fs/2.
Additionally, there is the problem that the field strength of a transmitter at a frequency out of your range of interest determines the AGC range. When you digitize at 250 MHz from 0 to 110 MHz, you can do with a simple filter, but the 100kW FM transmitter on 90 MHz will push those puny 5W on 3.5 MHz signals into the noise floor.

That’s what I always say until I press the “checkout” button.

The radio seems too good and fragile to use in the mountains…! Just looking at it makes me worried about that huge display…

I’m sure it’s a good transceiver!
I know transceivers shouldn’t fall but my ft817 has already survived two falls…
Okay, I’m clumsy!

They’re also reasonbly easy to repair when they do get damaged or something goes pop.
