WX1S MOUNTAIN GOAT

Please join me in congratulating Fred @WX1S on achieving 1000 activator points with his successful activation of W1/AM-020 on May 25!

Fred’s first activation dates to December 13, 2021. His mountain goat award is notable in that he has achieved 1000 activator points by activating exclusively within the W1 association! Moreover, Fred has logged the following stats in his “ascent[s]”:

131 completes
151 activator uniques
5107 QSOs
484 S2S QSOs (2822 S2S pts.)
A lot of miles!

Great job, Fred and looking forward to our next QSO!

JB,

Thank you so much for the post. Some of you know that I have been hiking for a very long time. More years then I care to acknowledge. However it is only recently that I joined the SOTA club.

For me, SOTA is more than just a crazy ham radio activity. There’s a bond between the participants that is hard to explain. For instance, I’ll never forget the time I was on Wildcat A just getting ready to tear down my station and along comes this south bound AT thru-hiker. He asked what I was doing and explained he was getting ready to do an activation. Scott N4AAJ (K4FR) and I have been friends ever since.

Then there’s Chris, F4WBN who I have worked from over 200 summits. I can always rely on getting him in the log even when propagation isn’t the best.

Sadly one of the first hams I ever worked on summit is no longer with us. Guru EA2IF is truly missed.

So for all of you, Bob, Mike, Paul, Roger, Dean, Pete, Heinz, Jan, Gary, Gary, Gary and Martha, thank you so much for being there. I couldn’t have done it without every one of you. I don’t know if I have another mountain goat in me but if you don’t mind, I’d like to keep trying.

Congratulations Fred on becoming a Mountain Goat!

Although I haven’t worked you as a chaser, I see from my logs that you have chased me twice for one of my few precious transatlantic QSOs so far.

I thought I recognised the callsign!

Good words!

Enjoy your MG achievement and hope to get you in the log again one day.

Congratulations on your Mountain Goat Fred.

It is posts like yours and activators like you that build the bonds between participants that make this such a nice community.

Good luck with your next Goat.
