Wouxon KG-Q10H for SOTA

I currently have an Icom IC-V86 HT that I pair with a 3-element yagi antenna for 2m SOTA activations. I’d like to get a dual band radio to have a little more functionality without having to carry an additional HT. I see that the Wouxon KG-Q10H has a super heterodyne receiver. Will this be adequate to reject unwanted signals using my yagi antenna? I tried comparing specs and I see the Icom has a wideband selectivity of 75 db compared to 70 db with the Wouxon. Are there other specs I should be looking at or does anyone have experience with this HT? Thanks.

Think about sensitivity of receiver. I have a very similar dilema, too. Now I use Yaesu FT-10R for 2 m SOTA. I would like to buy new handheld with more features. I am thinking of Yaesu FT-70D, Wouxun KG-Q10H (alternative KG-Q332) or maybe Icom ID-50. I am not able to choose. I have found FT-70D has some issues with receiver overload on 70 cm. This is bad for branded handheld. Wouxun is China - could be perfect on the paper but how it works in the field? I cannot find any relevant info about ID-50 usage during SOTA.

If you buy wouxun, please, do some tests on SOTA end let me know. 73!

Thanks, Roman. I could not find a sensitivity measurement for the Wouxon. However, like you said, on paper is one thing and actual experience is another and I am hesitant to spend $200+ only to give it a try. I may just be content with carrying two radios. My Icom for 2M SOTA and my Yaesu FT-65R for hitting local repeaters on 70cm.

Since there was last talk about “best” handy for SOTA on here I have seen a few Yaesu VX-170 and FT-270 2m handies sell on eBay-UK as well as one FT-60 2m/70cm handy.

The above 3 are about the best for coping with inclement weather and work fine when a large external antenna is attached. Many handies cannot copy with a larger antenna and overload easily especially when used close to other VHF transmitters.

The FT70 is not bad but there was detectable noise and desense when I used one on my local hill Cairnpapple GM/SS-254. In comparison my VX-170 / FT 817 and IC-705 have no problems at all. A VX8 was completely unusable.

Is the KG-Q10H any good? I don’t know but I know the FT60, which is in the same class for 2m as the V86, is very good. Yes it’s old so you will be buying second hand and may need a new battery (get it from Yaesu not a 3rd party). It will not sport all the latest and greatest feature (toys!) but it will actually work. That features is normally pretty important
