WIMO 2m Log Periodic SOTA beam mount for Sotabeams Tactical Mini Mast

Hi All,

I’ve designed and made a new mount for my WIMO 2m Log periodic antenna, as the supplied mount was not fit for purpose. The antenna itself is great, but the mount meant that it mates with the small diameter sections of my mast and was putting a lot of strain on the top sections (see the picture on WIMO’s site, where M1HAX is using it on a Sotabeams Tactical Mini mast). It was also really challenging to erect and I am sure that I would end up snapping some of the top sections of the mast, if I had persevered with the exist mount.

I have the Sotabeams tactical mini too. My mount is designed to work with the bottom 6 sections of the mast, and slips straight over the top and is a push fit (no screws or clamps required):

The above photo’s were taken during my activation earlier in the day at Easington Fell G/SP-012. The antenna can be rotated by rotating the mast (I use a simple guying ring) and can be changed from horizontal to vertical quickly by virtue of the wing nut. This is the cad model of the mount:

The design needs two plastic M12 Bolts and a plastic M12 wing nut. The antenna side mount fits directly to the existing holes, using the two bolts which secure the stock mount. One M12 bolt is used as the hinge bolt and a second bolt is used to secure to two mast parts together:

I recommend printing the parts using PETG fillament, as it is water and UV resistant and also much stronger than PLA etc. Once assembled you’ll need to cut the bolts down to size and trim the ends of the wing nut (which would otherwise foul the beam):

The beam also still fits in the supplied bag from WIMO, although you need to remove the hinge bolt and separate the two parts of the mount:

Post updated with correct link to 3D parts on Thingiverse.

Wimo now supplies a bag for this antenna? I didn’t get a bag when I bought mine a couple of years ago…

Anyway, thank you for this mount idea! It looks great. I’ll see if I can adapt it to a Sotabeams Tactical 7000hds mast. I broke the third segment from the top most likely because of the weight of this antenna.

I did the CAD work in Fusion, if you’d prefer the Fusion files to preserve the workflow and make editing it easier, please DM me your e-mail address and I can send you them,
