Hello extreme team! I have a personal interest in general mountain and wilderness safety, particularly as it pertains to portable radio operators!
We’re all out having a fantastic time in the great outdoors but things can and do go wrong. I wanted to put together a resource for people to learn a little bit about the topic and managed to talk to a highly experienced search and rescue team member about the topic today with a special focus on ham radio (thank you Adam, K6ARK!).
Here is a recording I made of that conversation, we cover all sorts of things including how to treat injuries, the 10 essentials, when to call for help, how to facilitate ease of rescue, staying warm and general awareness among other things!
It’s a long conversation (maybe something to put on in the background) but it’s full of good stuff that should help keep our happy little SOTA community a little safer!
