Does anyone know who runs the bot signing itself RhinoSW.Tools which polls every 5 seconds for ZLOTA spots (and probably hits every other spotting API with the same frequency too)?
They only target the spots endpoint, so I assume that they’re a genuine amateur user wanting to keep a display of spots. As such, I’d rather not blacklist them, but I’d like to contact the owner and ask them to back off the timer just a little.
That level of cluelessness needs a hard fix. Kill them at the firewall.
Hi Matt. That’s me. It’s not a bot, but rather a proxying/caching endpoint used by Heimdall which shouldn’t be hitting anywhere near that frequently. I’ll follow up with you via email to get to the bottom of it.

Note to self (and others): highlights the benefits of using a clear & unique user agent string when running automated interrogation of other people’s public websites. Great that we can get in touch and work out what’s needed.
