Lovely summit on a bright and calm weather.
Great to hear your ending DX qso.
No matter if it’s SSB or FM when there’s a good propagation duct enhancing the condition!
Well done Fraser, 73
Ignacio
I’d forgotten about that day. I was out with the 705 hoping for some tropo enhancement but was probably too late or too high so only UK stations. Still it was good fun.
We had great weather and great bands. It was my first 2m FM to Europe experience. Previously, I’d only experienced APRS packets from over the sea.
Excellent! Was that on Wednesday Fraser? I managed about 220 miles from the Sperrins to near Padstow on 5W into a j-pole that morning. Lovely conditions for VHF, bit warm for walking though!
No, it was on 24th April! My GoPro was playing up all day and kept resetting/repairing files and running out of battery. I’d actually given up recording when the DX arrived. Thankfully, Alex appeared at that point and I managed to capture some footage on my phone too. Hence the shaky video.
I completely forgot about the video footage until I found the footage on my phone and the footage Axex sent me.
Here is the full log. All SSB is GM. All FM is G and beyond.
On Thursday I was at home and tuned around on 2 Meters and heard a few European stations calling on SSB. I thought I would call back. Colinear in the loft and 40 Watts got a 59 signal report from Slovenia! I was shocked that he could actually hear me. Then the opening disappeared. Wish I was out portable when it happened. Oh well.
