What's this all about?

Looks like a spam site advertising casinos. www(dot)sotawatch(dot)org

When you find a site with spam/dodgy adverts, make sure you publish the web address to a wide audience of people who will click the link without thinking and possibly get more than they bargained for

We gave up that domain a long time back now as it cost money and was not being used.

The golden domain is sota.org.uk and SOTAwatch is found from sotawatch.sota.org.uk. One day the database will be sotadata.sota.org.uk but it’s still at sotadata.org.uk There’s a reason why it hasn’t moved but I can’t remember what it is.

Thanks. I have edited the URL; although it wasn’t showing up as being dangerous. Curious that someone has created it in such a way.

Thanks.
For a long time it was just about the Tatra mountains. The casino stuff is more recent. We regularly get asked by people if they can write some articles for us to place on the website. But we don’t want casino spam or articles containing links to malware and spam so we politely decline by ignoring them!

SOTA is an acronym for other things including State Of The Art and I can imagine the domain name SOTAwatch being useful in those contexts.

Indeed but the content on the referenced website is making vague associations with Summits on the Air.

Richard’s post reminds me that I came across a dodgy link a couple of days ago whilst looking at the info on G/CE-004 via Sotl.as. I think it was the article by 2E0GPU. The page it took me to was definitely not a description of a SOTA activation!

There are quite a lot of articles on this summit, so I might be mentioning the wrong one, but I don’t really want to go back and click on it again!

I don’t recommend people have a look unless they are sure they have a way of protecting their device from dodgy websites!

It was that one. www(dot)we0gpu(dot)com belongs to someone in the Middle Kingdom now. Link deleted from summits page.

Where I’m from, SOTA stands for School of the Arts, and I drive by their sign twice per week on the way to my home summit.
