After a huge pileup at 20m yesterday on DM/NS-125, I wanted to know what was going on at 40m.
By chance I heard a friendly one calling and we had a nice normal qso about this and that. In the end he gave me the frequency and I started with “CQ Sota…” I immediately heard a sharply defined hiss with S9, like from an FM receiver with an open squelch. No digital mode, no over-horizon radar.
I didn’t want to give in and in fact I could successfully identify a dozen friendly chasers from dl3bob (hi Olaf) to dl2ef. Thanks to you for your patience. The disturbance continued, only interrupted by short pauses like: “Well, is he still there?”
What is the motivation of a radio amateur to do such a thing? Dislike of contest-like qsos instead of conversations, envy of oms that experience pileups or simply loneliness: “Nobody plays with me.”

You will find these toxic people in all areas of life, Their brains are wired differently and I think it’s a waste of time to try to understand how they work.
My experience has taught me one thing: the best way to handle them is ignore them completely; it’s a good exercise to detach from negativity, and since they typically seek attention, they get more enraged and eventually give up slight_smile:
You’re right. Whether in politics, business or in private life, you find people everywhere who lack any solidarity. Even towards their fellow countrymen.

The thing to remember is that these people get a strange perverted satisfaction out of annoying others. If you ignore them, pretend that nothing is happening, don’t act annoyed, then it reduces their pleasure. It could be that the culprit is reading this thread with huge enjoyment!
Some people are just deeply dumb and as said before, the best is to ignore them. Sometimes when their qrm is stronger than the chasers it’s hard to keep a neutral attitude and just go mad on them but I always try to act like if I was not hearing them at all.
I have been licensed for almost 70 years (since 1956) and I can tell you that these mentally challenged people have always been there. There is no explanation for them.
