I think it may be useful to point out that hurricane Katia is being predicted to hit the UK early next week.

Hi, Colin, I put a brief mention on the marathon “Cloud 2011” topic a couple of days ago but its better with its own topic so we can keep track (pun accidental!) as they refine the forecast. I was camping near St Ives in Cornwall when Hurricane “Charlie” turned up in 1986, and lost a perfectly good family tent, so I know just how fierce the Atlantic storm that a hurricane degrades to can be when it hits us.

Ever since Mr. Fish was misquoted about hurricanes in 1988, all “consumer” weather services have cried wolf whenever the weather may be a bit rough. Just in case.
