Geez, you were playing in my backyard and didn’t even say Hi! 
I was on a train bound for Elko - or I would have shouted out to you and stopped by. Couple of more easy peaks in that area as well - you could have had an easy 24 point day! That fence around the lookout is new, or at least the last time I was up there that didn’t exist. Those flat panels are for the old microwave system that AT$T used to run. They bounced sigs from Portola up to Beckwourth Peak, to Smith Peak, and then on down to Blairsden where they had a central office. This was all before Fiber and the Internet…Good DX there too! Suggest giving signal report at the outset, even if you have incomplete call…“kilo six ending lima 5 and 5, I need your call”. Get small clipboard and headphones with boom mic on VOX. Mine cost 26 dollars. It is electret, so needs bias voltage, which KX3 does for you. Not sure about other radios or other headsets.
