That’s bad news Grant. I don’t have much confidence that the Cinnamon fungus and the like can be eradicated or even properly controlled. It’s a world wide problem and spreads easily.

Boot washing stations (as mentioned in the article) should be introduced on all maintained walking trails. They don’t stop intra trail spreading but can prevent import or export of dirt borne disease. Most of us probably do clean their boots at the end of a walk and again when we get home but we are the minority. Education is the key. A washing station at the track start and end is a minimum measure.

I get annoyed when a problem like this is used as a means of introducing other anti hiking agendas rather than concentrate on the actual problem which is what is happening here.
