Not in Nevada, it is however on the East coast!
With a Caravan booked in Ingoldmells, and a trip over there from the home QTH in Oldham, it was relatively simple to stop by for an activation on the closest thing Lincolnshire can classify as a mountain
the county being somewhat flatter than a pancake is somewhat of a disadvantage to us SOTA activators… Dont worry though, all is not lost! step forward G/TW-005 - Normamby top. a nice drive on summit, with easy access and plenty of places to play radio from the roadside, sporting a rather attractive Radome on stick that is, if im honest its only real feature….
Anyhow with Mrs JWA fast a kip in the Jalopy, I picked a roadside spot with a handy gate for my mast, and a flat topped gate post for my radio!
2M FM and the FT817 were the weapons of choice, but i wasnt holding much hope that the mighty 5W ws going to be enough… and yet again, the little FT817 sliced through the airwaves like a sharpened scythe…. 7 contacts ITL, with Huddersfield, Leeds and down into Nottinghamshire being some great contacts, that more thanm made up for the lack of a view!
With Mrs JWA waking up, and wanting to get back on our way, I packed up and off we went!
Thanks as usual to all the chasers
Alan
