Hafa Adai! Toru. Awesome! Was wondering who was going to be the first to activate Guam. I was scheduled to go out there earlier this year, but wasn’t able to make it. Mt Lamlam is a nice easy hike up. Park at the turnout along Marine Drive, hike up to the saddle, go north to the peak. The crosses are not Lamlam but close. Mt Alutom is easy drive up off of Nimitz Road. TV and radio towers there. Mt Santa Rosa will be gated, it’s an USAF Radar site, but you should be able to set up along the fence and be in the activation zone. Good luck and have fun. Doubt we’ll be able to hear you here in California, but will be watching RBN to see iffen you are spotted.

Hafa Adai! Todd,
Thank you for nice information. I did two summits so far. Today was very easy Mt. Alutom but yesterday’s Mt. Lamlam was very difficult to find the way, especially on the way back. There are very tall bush of sugar cane and very easy to loose trail. I lost trail for 2hours and finally I climbed up to the summit once again and finally got the trail. It was a bit dangerous by alone hike of this summit. When I got back to hotel I found the blog of somebody and he did the same with me.

Hi Toru-san,

Thanks for QSO on 15m from KH2/GU-002. Barely readable but in the log. Didn’t hear you on 20m. Looking forward to working you at KH2/GU-003.

Bummer, I missed your KH2/GU-001 activation :frowning:

Have a good time. Be safe.

Konbanwa Toru-san. Arigato Gozaimasu. Forgive my Japanese. Been many years since I was last on Okinawa and mainland Japan. I lived on Guam too for 7 years back in the late 1980’s and early 90’s. Ok on Lamlam. It’s a fun hike and you are right about the “swordgrass”. It gets tall up there if there hasn’t been a recent fire to burn it off. I saw your spots today too, but no joy out here in California. Getting stateside is probably going to be difficult during the low of sunspot activity. I used to hike up there often and play radio. I too have hiked down into the Fena Valley where the lake is, and also all the way down to the village of Merizo from up there. Long, but enjoyable hiking. Here’s a bunch of pictures I took from a few years back. Everytime I’ve been up there, I’m usually the only one there, with the exception of the wild pigs! You have to watch out for the momma pigs as they can get really mean  Glad you are having a good time on the island. Wish I were there too!

See if that link works. From my Flickr account from a few years back. WH2AOK is club call that I am Trustee for…Hope to work you some day when my wife and I get back on the island…73, Todd KH2TJ

Seems the Flickr link only shows one picture. For the rest of the pic’s and a couple of videos from this album, go to Flickr and search for KH2TJ and then my album “Mt Lam Lam, Guam”… Not sure why the album link isn’t going thru…73, Todd KH2TJ

Sorry I missed you today Toru but I hope to find you Wednesday.
Enjoy the trip to Guam and SOTA .
Exciting .

I was too late for you today also, Toru. I will try to be on air early tomorrow. I got home at 2330 but I think you had already activated by then. Listened on 24 mhz but nil heard. Stay safe in that long grass.

Looks like you are in for some weather there too Toru-san. Gov Guam went into COR3 earlier today. Be careful out there in Typhoon Alley…

Most likely will not be much, but just a heads up…

Andrei,
Thanks for your call today. Your signal was solid strong. Sorry for QRP in this side.

Toru K. KH2/JH0CJH

Hi Andrew, Ian,
No worry I will be here up to Friday. But from this late afternoon weather was so harsh due to typhoon so please allow me, if I may not activate tomorrow. Thursday, I will definitely on air.

Toru KH2/JH0CJH

Hi Todd,
Yes from this late afternoon it is like those typhoon weather here. Then I have to wait Thursday to finish 3 summits activation. Also if I had a chance I will reactivate GU-002 on Thursday. But not GU-001, I was so tired with that bush

Hi Toru-san,

Heard you on 14.015 today (27 Nov) around 06:00 UTC with good signal. I am guessing you were working from the hotel or some other accommodation.

Hi Toru-san,

Thank you again for the QSO, this time from KH2/GU-003. I hope you enjoyed your activation and I heard a number of stations working you - JA’s, US , ZL’s. I heard you working Gary ZL2IFB and I hope you worked John ZL1BYZ for S2S QSO. He was too close to me to hear him.

Hi Toru,

Any chance for a late activation 20m near sunset? Your sunset is very close to my sunrise 07:32Z in Sweden,. we are both in or very close to gray line.

I couldn’t see John though he always calling my activation. My operation was so short yesterday because of limited time.
I finished all three activation in KH2 and today will go back to home.
Thank you for calling.

Hi Lars
Sorry I just found this and I have already finished all activation adventure. In KH2 it is a little bit difficult to doing radio staff in near local peoples houses and near military facility. Mt Santa Rosa was air force radar and security seems very tight then I have to made it very short. Thanks and see you sometime later.
