VIDEO: Big hike to Feigentalhimmel on hot summer day

Hello everyone,

Join me on this hike to Feigentalhimmel OE/OO-207 on a hot summer day. The summit name is very weird by the way. It translates to ‘Fig valley heaven’ (or more likely sky in that case). With about 1500 m vertical ascent one is definitly getting closer to heaven - hi.

I started early already at 6:15 local time to avoid the heat of the day as much as possible and reached the Rinnerhütte (mountainhut). From there further up and along the very scenic Wildensee that was like a mirror without any wind disturbing the surface.
Hike over lush green high pastures finally approching the summit after 12,5 km in 4 hours 20 min needed quite some endurance.
Conditions on 2m FM were challenging with OK stations blasting on all simplex channels in high power. But despite that some nice S2S and contacts were made.
On HF a really nice contact with a Scout station with a young operator finalized the activation.
But see for yourself in the video.

Total hiked: 25 km with ~ 1480 m vertical up and down. About 5,5 Liters of water consumed that day.

There IS another way to translate it, if one notes that “feig” or “Feige” can also mean “coward.” Perhaps the namers thought that the mountain was too inaccessible for the faint of heart. Doesn’t apply to our redoubtable Joe, though…

Maybe that. Or just a change of letters in old German (Lautverschiebung)? Because Feigen are definitly not growing in that area now - hi.

What a day, Joe - thanks for another one to a summit with a funny name. Nothing for my knees, so better to see you going up and down there.

Another one for your hiking book for later memories, enjoy the next ones!
