It been a while since I made a video. Also partially related to switching my desktop PC from Windows to Linux (CachyOS) now using Shotcut as video editor.
That needed a bit of learning to get into the new editing philosophy. First video on the new software is out on youtube. Still some learning to do but it kinda worked fine.
The activation documented is one of the not so often activated summits in OE/OO as there is no official trail leading up. Summit name is Sulzkogel SOTLAS near Ebensee and the lake Offensee, a six pointer only activated 3 times before. Rain and thunderstorms were forecast for the late afternoon so an early start was a good choice.
So I started my GPS and recorded the "bushwack” up and documented an easier route down. Both are of course on sotamaps/sotl.as
I also already change back in October with the EOL of Win10.
But so far did not record and edit. The nice thing with CachyOS with Arch Linux under the hood is that there is always the latest software available in the package management. But good to know that the portable tar works too.
Also nice to see that my Nvidia card got detected and is used for hardware accelerated de/encoding of the video footage.

Hi Joe. Thanks for the video. That peak reminds me of a lot of SOTA peaks in Idaho: steep and no trail or people. It’s alway rewarding to find a way up.
As hiking in OE is very popular most summits with a kinda nice view have trails. But there is quite a number of those less popular ones in OE/OO region. It is fun and rewarding - and sometimes also just nice to have a quiet summit for yourself.
I did that 10months ago… I am very pleased.
