Rich, VE6LCE, is poised to become a Goat on Saturday, Oct 5th, wx and propagation permitting. Please join us in congratulating his achievement and maybe chasing him (or one of the rest of the party) on VE6/RA-094 - called GE69 in the SOTA Database but referred to locally as “Goat Hill”. Rich will only be the 8th person to join the Canadian branch of the herd, which isn’t a very high number on a population base of 41 million with > 50k amateur radio licensees. Is this a reflection of our sedentary habits? It’s certainly not a lack of mountains and hills! At least where SOTA in VE6 and VE7 are concerned, it’s possibly associated with the relative scarcity of drive-ups, typically “sporting” approach hikes, mountain wx, the usual assortment of critters and a pretty looooong winter … Didn’t hold Rich back any; …_. _… es ᚴᚬᚾᚱᛅᛏᛋ ᛏᚬ ᚱᛁᚴᚼ

I just did a quick calculation of Rich’s accomplishments. He has done over 70,000 vertical meters to achieve this milepost. Rich has taken the steady consistent approach, mostly choosing our local 4-point summits with between 300 - 500 meter gain summits. Years of dedication has brought him to this point. There are many sprinters in our hobby who run out of energy before the goal, but Rich is our marathon man!

Hid did it. Yesterday, Rich (VE6LCE) completed the quest to gain Mountain Goat status on a perfect Autumn day. Way to go Rich!
