Updates: SOTAMAT 2.2.3 and SOTACAT v260420

SOTAMAT 2.2.3 available in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store:

  • Hiking Time Calculator - found in the More menu. Input the following:
    • your Distance to destination,
    • total ascent and total descent
    • your Pack weight (slider), Pace (slider), and Trail condition (slider)
      …and the app will compute:
    • Time to destination and speed (mph / kph)
    • Return time and speed (mph / kph)
    • Out-and-back time and speed (mph / kph)
    • Steepness (grade, degrees, and “feeling” description)
  • Sunrise and Sunset times - specific to the SOTA Summit or POTA Park you specify: the values show up in the map screen under the “GPS Assist” and the “Point Me” button.

The Hiking Time calculator uses:

  • a modified Naismith style distance and ascent timing algorithm,
  • a Tobler slope adjustment for downhill travel (rather than Langmuir)
  • and a Pandolf pack-weight adjustment
  • plus other tweaks.

…and the ability to fine tune based on prior hike data using continuous sliders for the various parameters.

SOTACAT V260420 adds: (KC6X)

  • ** Chase: Scan mode ** - a “Scan” button on the Chase page cycles through the currently visible spots, tuning the radio to each one in turn and scrolling it into view.
    • Spacebar toggles scan; j / k step through spots manually
    • Dwell time per spot is configurable in Settings (default 7s)
    • Any UI interaction that would invalidate the current cursor (refresh, changing filters, re-sorting, clicking a row, MyCall, PoLo) automatically stops the scan
    • Scroll-into-view now honors the sticky header and centers the active row for better visibility
  • Chase: better defaults and auto-refresh discoverability
    • Mode filter now defaults to SSB+CW (was “All”)
    • Compact mode and radio-band filtering are on by default
    • Saved user preferences always win over defaults (a previously-enabled setting no longer silently flips back on fresh load)
    • Auto-refresh is finally discoverable (#89): a 3-second “Auto-refresh?” prompt appears after each manual refresh, thanks to a suggestion from Brian
    • Age-colored UTC cell: fresh spots (< 5 min) are uncolored; older spots progressively tint warm red, capped at 60 min. Only the UTC cell is tinted, so existing row styling is preserved.
  • Improved FT8 reliability
